Re: Harbinger vs X-O
Really dumb question. How do you get the QR Variants? Should I just contact my local shop and suscribe to the book? This will be my first time in a shop for 0-15 years so I have no idea how it works any more. Is it too late to suscribe you think?
Thanks,
Shadow

Re: Harbinger vs X-O
That could be difficult. The QR variants are 1 in 50 variants, which means that if a comic shop orders 50 copies of Harbinger 1, they get 1 copy of the QR variant. My local comic shop will not order 50 copies and will not get a QR variant. If I wanted to order the QR variant through him, I would probably have to buy 50 copies of Harbinger 1 and have arranged this two months ago.
It doesn't hurt to ask. Definitely see if your local comic shop has one and if he will sell it. It is likely that he will want more than cover price unless he is cool. The X-O Manowar QR cover last month sold for $100+ several time on eBay and is still selling for around $70 to $90. Your LCS owner may know this and may want to get some of that for himself.

Kinda what I figured. I read today about a pullbox variant for Harbinger, I may see about that. I am probably late for that as well. To re-iterate from Chiclo - it is tough now, but for the future talk with your LCS. These are small businesses - and I've found personal dealings to be the most successful. Be clear upfront, and ask. The worst thing that can happen is you can't make a deal. But then you'll know.

From what I have seen/heard a lot of shops just have the pullbox variants on the shelf next to the regular edition. At least mine did.shadowhawk2020 wrote:Kinda what I figured. Re: Harbinger vs X-O
Even my largest LCS...and its a major player nationally even...didn't order 50 of Harbinger #1. 50 is a tough number to ask some of these businesses to commit to.kevinbastos wrote:To re-iterate from Chiclo - it is tough now, but for the future talk with your LCS. I agree. I think a 1:20 and 1:35 would be a little better. My LCS only got 16 copies of Harbinger, even after I expressed interest in the 1:20.tchalla8 wrote:Even my largest LCS...and its a major player nationally even...didn't order 50 of Harbinger #1. 50 is a tough number to ask some of these businesses to commit to.kevinbastos wrote:To re-iterate from Chiclo - it is tough now, but for the future talk with your LCS. Re: Harbinger vs X-O
My guy is a little local shop - but will order if I cover cost.
Example - he will order 10-15 copies of the Harbinger book.
I wanted to get the 1:50, so I agree to cover the cost difference between his order and the fifty. That's the price he charges me for the 1:20 and 1:50.
Right now, it works out to be about $70.
Then, I buy two extra copies of the Harbinger for two friends - he earns $8 profit.
He can then sit them on the shelf. Any copy that sells is profit to him. Leftovers, he puts in the quarter/$1 bin in a few months.
He makes a profit. I stay happy. I keep coming back to him. I buy more books. He stays in business.

If it makes you feel better, Kevin, I'm coming around to the idea that we may eventually live in a world where the Harbinger QR is more valuable than the X-O QR.

Re: Harbinger vs X-O
The thing that is blowing my mind now is the accident on the east coast that damaged many of the X-O 1, and now the kerfuffle with the paradise sets.Dr. Solar wrote:If it makes you feel better, Kevin, I'm coming around to the idea that we may eventually live in a world where the Harbinger QR is more valuable than the X-O QR.
Nearly perfect copies of these are getting tougher...
I have two of each of these, and it feels like I am starting a hoard...

Re: Harbinger vs X-O
I think that all of these 1:50 variants are going to be very hard to come by fairly soon. I expect a lot to get sucked up in to semi-permanent collections, so that there aren't that many on the market. I've got about half a percent of the estimated print run of the X-O QRs, how many more like me are there?
