Re: Shadowman, Shadowman. Wherefore art thou Shadowman?
I have been listening to interviews, and I believe the Valiant LIVE event last Thursday had a portion with 8 titles mentioned.
X-O, Harbinger, Bloodshot, Archer & Armstrong, Eternal Warrior, Rai, Shadowman, and Ninjak.
It just so happens the first 4 are the first 4 books and the next two are mentioned in FCBD with dates.
If the pattern holds... look who's next.

Re: Shadowman, Shadowman. Wherefore art thou Shadowman?
A tweet I sent to Valiant regarding Shadowman got this response out of them: Never fear! Not a day goes by that we don't talk about Shadowman! Keep your ears to the ground for future announcements.
Though I have to admit, to hear virtually nothing about Shadowman so far has been a total drag for me personally. We did get a Tumblr photo that may or may not relate to Shadowman but even that is a big ?
Here is the Tumblr image if you haven't seen it...

Exactly on target for what we diehards have been expecting, although I'v been foolishly praying for Q&W sooner than later

Same here dude I'd love to see some Q&W. I don't really get Ninjak, was it some of the VEIs favourites? It was never a very good title or character.MoonChild wrote:Exactly on target for what we diehards have been expecting, although I'v been foolishly praying for Q&W sooner than later

Yes, it appears to be a fave. Not sure why. That's going to be a very tough book / character to make likeable in any manner and probably won't work anyway.ian_house wrote:I don't really get Ninjak, was it some of the VEIs favourites? It was never a very good title or character.

I disagree. I think it could work, and sometimes did. But much of the run, the writing did not work.

I am sure it is in the pipeline, but maybe they havent found the right creative team or heard the right pitch yet?

Yeah, that's great to hear! I hadn't listened to all the podcasts and wondered about the other three titles in the winter launch. Eagerly awaiting the return of Master Darque as well!

If that tumblr image is a hint at the direction they are going with Shadowman... I'd rather they just not do it.
I would agree with you, but then we'd both be wrong.

I'm with you on that Heath. I've loved everything up to this point, but that image. It does not look good.

I loved the kinetic, frantic, crazy energy - the New Orleans jazz - of the original Shadowman. Free-form improvisation in the dark. I just don't get that at all from that image. It looks like The Question as a zombie.

I actually would have prefered HARD Corp to Ninjak. Or Timewalker. Or Second Life of Dr. Mirage. Secret Weapons (a team book would be cool). Or even Armorines.400yrs wrote:Yes, it appears to be a fave. Not sure why. Heck, I might have even preferred a NEW book!
Ninjak is not anywhere near my top favorites.

Re: Shadowman, Shadowman. Wherefore art thou Shadowman?
Both versions of Ninjak were pretty lame. I did however like how they portrayed Colin King in the VH2 series. He was more like a James Bond type of character. It's a shame he took a backseat to the video game kid.cjv wrote:I actually would have prefered HARD Corp to Ninjak. Or Timewalker. Or Second Life of Dr. Mirage. Re: Shadowman, Shadowman. Wherefore art thou Shadowman?
I think Ninjak could be a tough sell and here's why:
First, the name is cheesy so you would have to make sure the relaunched concept is badd-*SQUEE* enough to counter that. I'm sorry, but I always hated the name.
Second, I'm not sure where Ninjak would fit with the other announced books. If it's high adventure and archeological finds, then it overlaps with Archer & Armstrong. If it's a bad-*SQUEE* ninja, then it overlaps with Rai. If it's espionage and intrigue, that overlaps with Bloodshot. Shadowman fits a niche and a need in the new universe as a supernatural and street-level book. If Ninjak is targeting the same audience as another Valiant book, it is unlikely to sell as well as a different concept would be and/or it may take readers away from other books. Neither option is a good thing for an upstart company.
I agree that I would much rather see HARD Corps, Secret Weapons or Timewalker. HC would have some overlap with Harbinger, but can be turned into a different enough concept and has tons of potential to do so. SW would be a more traditional team-up book that could spotlight those characters who couldnt carry their own series right now (Dr. Mirage, Ninjak, etc) or introduce new characters.
Timewalker could be a modern-day Dr. Who, though it is unclear if Eternal Warrior might have a similar format. If that book jumps around to various time periods, it may be too much to have two books like that.

This is one of my favorite images released so far and inasmuch as I love VH-1 Shadowman, I liked VH-3 Shadowman better because it was darker and grittier and that's what I want to see.

Re: Shadowman, Shadowman. Wherefore art thou Shadowman?
I think Ninjak has always had a lot of potential it has never come close to achieving. It is a character where I like the concept, but I'm not emotionally attached so I look forward to what kind of revamping they have in mind for him. Unlike Shadowman where I'm so emotionally attached to the original that any revamping is going to upset me.
I would agree with you, but then we'd both be wrong.

I lean towards the VH3 version as well, but I'm not really fond of that particular drawing. Hopefully it's a very rough sketch.geocarr wrote:This is one of my favorite images released so far and inasmuch as I love VH-1 Shadowman, I liked VH-3 Shadowman better because it was darker and grittier and that's what I want to see.
