I'm still reading:400yrs wrote:Well...... There ain't much interest in this thread. I figured this would happen, but so early??????? Only 6 issues in to the new launch?????
IMO, this is a reflection on the rest of the comic fan base. By the end of this year, the New 52 will likely feel like a distant memory. I'll have a few more thoughts on this is a bit maybe......
With that being said, I'm still very much looking forward to the next issue of Flash. The next issue of Aquaman featuring Mera looks great and I've never even heard of Mera. Capt Cold previews have been AMAZING!!! and I'm still looking forward to Animal Man, Swamp Thing and Aquaman.
So I read Animal Man #5. What a fantastic cover! The story is friggin awesome. Love this book!
All Star Western #5. This is the last copy I pre-ordered. I enjoyed it, but still came away with the feeling that I'd rather have a done in one Jonah Hex story. The back-up was actually better than the main story.
Action Comics
Animal Man
Aquaman
Batman
Batwoman
Flash
Justice League
Justice League Dark
Justice League International
Suicide Squad
Swamp Thing
Probably works out around the same number of DC books I was reading before the new 52. Most of its good. Nightwing and Demon Knights were the most recent things to get the chop.

I ordered Batwoman vol. 1 HC that is coming out in April and it better damn great or otherwise I'm going to use it as a weapon.

I've been noticing this sentiment more and more on podcasts and on various forums.400yrs wrote:Well...... There ain't much interest in this thread. I figured this would happen, but so early??????? Only 6 issues in to the new launch?????

It seems like the "shiny newness" of the New 52 is wearing off, and all that is left are some mediocre to decent books.
Even the books I rather liked (Action, Animal Man, Swamp Thing, OMAC, Frankenstein, etc) didn't really "wow" me enough to keep up with them. I'll go back and get them eventually, but nothing really felt like a "must read" out of these new 52.

Not so sure about that dude. Books like Batman and Animal Man have been getting pick of the weeks left right and centre. Most of the comic sites right now each have an article looking at the 1st 6 months of the new 52 (with plenty of heated debate in the comments section).Dr. Solar wrote:I've been noticing this sentiment more and more on podcasts and on various forums.400yrs wrote:Well...... I'd chat more about them here as I have a pretty big DC pull list but the posts generally get ignored or get Bruce/Leon etc. saying how modern comics are crap. It's just that this site is very DU orientated and of the big two there are a hell of alot more Marvel fans.

Not ALL modern comics are crap! I am quite partial to Marineman, Jack Staff, Mudman, Invincible via hard cover collections, Savage Dragon, Project Superpowers and its spin-offs, Avengers, New Avengers, the current Defenders title, Shade, THUNDER Agents, the Ultimate line, and the series I am most looking forwards to this year? New Crusaders!

Leon, you can't even put out that list without including a DU like Project Superpowers.

Hey its not dead yet. Its resting!Chiclo wrote:Leon, you can't even put out that list without including a DU like Project Superpowers.

(Apologies to Monty Python)
On Project Superpowers - If nothing else arrives by the end of 2012, then for my money it will have become a DU.

Fingers crossed that new material arrives before then!

I guess I've just been missing a lot of the excitement that is still around for the New 52. I know certain titles have been pretty good, but it seemed to me like the "across the board" excitement had died down.

A few already have haven't they? I think Mr Terrific has gone (it was awful, I'd hoped it would be good). Blackhawk and Hawk and Dove have gone. Maybe some others.BruceReville wrote:So which titles look to be the first to be cancelled?

Re: DC Relaunch Story Discussions ONLY (no market info or sp
This month I have read a bunch of DC books. My assessment is almost exactly the same as last month. See below:
Aquaman #6 (2/5) - I was not very impressed with this issue. It was all about Mera and I thought the story was just too cheesey. I am teetering on dropping this title. Issue #5 was okay and this one not good. If it does not get better in the next couple issues I am through.
Animal Man #6 (5/5) Again, this was amazing.
Batwoman #6 (3.5/5) - Still good and consistent with prior issues. Still a slow pace and enjoyable. Love the art, but sadly, I have decided to drop this series. I like it, but with the relaunch of VALIANT I can't keep buying stories that are just okay.
Batman #6 (5/5) - Another great Snyder book.
Swamp Thing #6 (5/5) - This issue was awesone. This series has really picked up and I am excited

Opposite for me - Mr Terrific was awful for me, a poor rebuilding of the good stuff done in the past 15 years with Michael Holt/Mr Terrific.ian_house wrote:BruceReville wrote:That was fast! On the other hand, I just enjoyed Hawk and Dove as old-school fun; not with great depth but a tone that worked for me.

I rather liked OMAC, that is a shame. The rest, I'm not surprised. I thought Men of War was kinda cool, but Mister Terrific, Hawk and Dove, and Blackhawks were not good.BruceReville wrote:6 titles actually being cancelled. Ah no I wasn't saying I liked Mr. Terrific, agree with your assessment. Fair do's onHawk and Dove, the cover to issue 1 was enough to make me run away and be sickleonmallett wrote:Opposite for me - Mr Terrific was awful for me, a poor rebuilding of the good stuff done in the past 15 years with Michael Holt/Mr Terrific.ian_house wrote:BruceReville wrote:That was fast!
