HELP! Augh!
So, I finished up my latest definition of Valiant/Acclaim completion. What do I do?
Yeah. Bought a set of New Universe. $90 shipped.
Starting to get a little crazy here.
Got my carts full of all of the missing Defiant/Broadway books.
Knightt, I'm beginning to get a little obsessed, here...

I know that feeling. My definition of "complete" expands and contracts too, depending on the level of crazy I'm feeling that day. Just when you think you're done...
Not to be an enabler, but that's a great price for the New Universe Set.

Revision will be coming.
It was missing Pitt, Draft, War, and 4 issues in the general run.
Certainly PLENTY of reading - and most of the missing issues are already in my other carts.
Now building a long box - Defiant plus Broadway plus New Universe plus Dark Key. Hooray!

What about the Quasar issues, Untold Tales (To include Back-ups in New Avengers & Amazing Fantasy) and Starblast Crossover? Don't count New Universal as that is a completely new continuity in itself.kevinbastos wrote:Let's see. Start a new thread. Definition of 'complete.'dbngaa wrote:I know that feeling. What about pre-Crisis DC? Lots of dead universes after that event.

Valiant is the son of the New Universe.
Re: HELP! Augh!
I am three books away from finishing up Acclaim and have a mind to work on something else. I've even started to read a few titles like yesterday I started reading Master Darque and I was uh, LIKING it. I will admit that I have not read Harbinger or Turok from the old series so instead of getting into the boxes to dig them out and take up space on my nightstand, I put them on my iPad... and love it. Gives me an idea of how it would be if the new books are put out in digital form.kevinbastos wrote:So, I finished up my latest definition of Valiant/Acclaim completion. What do I do?

I will give the old books one thing... it takes a LONG TIME to read them. I am surprised at much work went into the 'writing' of the early Valiant books. I've really needed to finished up my DU New Universe run (shouldn't be 'that' hard, right ? LOL) and that is another line that is a looong read, every issue packed full of those alphabet thingees, oh yeah WORDS.

You bet, man... it does feel like a sickness at one point. I opened up so many DUs to collect that I do not have a real grasp on all the DUs I am collecting and like forget keeping up with them and all that info. I got so much going on in my head that SOMEthing has to fall out at one point. I can't keep all that info about the various DUs in my head like Brother J, Bruce Reville, Chiclo, and Draco do. I am impressed daily with their ability to retain that kind of knowledge. Part of my 'distance' has been related to being so busy but now that I have more time, I intend to get reintegrated. Proof to that is my recent purchase of I estimate over 150 books to fill holes here and there, on top of that I have quiet a few in my 'cart' from mycomicshop.com.
Let the obsession come, ride the soothing waves of the Dead Universe. Embrace your destiny.

Re: HELP! Augh!
Funny.
My intention was that I needed help getting OUT of the dead universe obsession, and all of you kids suggested ways to get me back in.
I figured the Defiant and Broadway were good, because completing them was a NEAR impossibility.
How many of the Miracle on Broadway were made, anyway?

Re: HELP! Augh!
You're right. Time for an intervention. Kevin, step AWAY from the quarter bins. Put down that War Dancer 4. You are stronger than this. You can lead a healthy, productive life without EVER knowing what happens in Star Seed 8. I promise. It won't be easy. You'll relapse - that's part of the recovery process. You'll wake up one day and find a stack of Dark Dominion books you don't even remember buying next to the bed. But we're all here for you. Well, a few of us are here for you. The rest would like to know if you are going to sell your Valiant Voices. Good luck!kevinbastos wrote:Funny.

This is terrible advice. No Valiant collection is complete without at least a full run of Defiant comics (Birth of the Defiant U is optional).dbngaa wrote:You're right. Time for an intervention. I speak from experience when I say that dbngaa is pretty much right on with his post above. I have had periods of sobriety from DU collecting but I always know that relapse is right around the corner and I've made peace with that.dbngaa wrote:You're right. Time for an intervention. Re: HELP! Augh!
Every time I look at a new comic, I think four dollars? Really?
Or, I could get forty of these other comics I haven't read.
Hmmm...
Easy decision.
Then, I buy a birth of Defiant Universe, and throw it all to *SQUEE* in a handcar. Oh, well.

Listen. I was already working on the Defiant set. It's he lull before my LCS tells me a cost for the X-o insanity begins. Now, if someone is selling me those last two Broadway books, you'll know I've gone too far!

Seriously, this has been a real blast.
My seven-year old daughter asked me if she could have my comics. I told her she'd have to work it out with her older and younger sisters. My eleven year old writes about Magnus and SOLAR. The three of us just finished the early Batman runs. I know how terrible they are again, but it's taken me this long to go back and enjoy them again. I really do. Thanks, kids.
But don't suggest anything else.
At least until I find a great deal on those last broadway books.
