Amanda Conner on the Silk Specter. That could be cool.
I won't like that I am buying it anyway.

These big publishers sure know how to milk something. I may have been interested if it were a single maxi series, with a single good writer. Maybe they'll hit this out of the park anyway.

Yes, they do, and the fact Wein is involved might help keep the feel of the original. Should be good. I know Moore will grumble. Wonder if Gibbons has anything to say.jedimarley wrote:The creative teams look promising.

Did you read Watchmen? Are you even slightly curious about the quality of this project? Your answers may be found therein.BruceReville wrote:I really have no opinion on this - will I read it?![]()

I saw a good comment on Facebook. What if instead of using the Watchmen characters, they had put these creative teams to work on the Charlton characters that the Watchmen characters were based on?
I would agree with you, but then we'd both be wrong.

Gibbons is okay with it. Moore wrote his response in the NYTimes.
I'm basically out of comics except for the few old books I buy for art and story, so even with the Kuberts onboard I've no interest.
I did like the movie.

Re: DC Announces Before Watchmen
I was thinking the same thing. It seems like the story would be a lot better if they just did a 12-issue series or something, I don't know how it's going to work being all broken up like that. I understand why people might be upset over DC making more Watchmen comics, but you have to see it from their view. They are sitting on a property that is almost guaranteed to sell a lot comics. Why wouldn't they use it? I'm actually more surprised that it took this long.StarBrand wrote:These big publishers sure know how to milk something. As for the actual series, I'll get it because I'm really curious what they're going to do with it. I can't imagine that they'll be able to tell an epic story like the original, but maybe they'll do something to grow the characters. I think it's stupid that the cramming another pirate type story in with it... what's the point?

Interesting idea...but the Watchmen characters will sell more copies. Agreed??Heath wrote:I saw a good comment on Facebook. What if instead of using the Watchmen characters, they had put these creative teams to work on the Charlton characters that the Watchmen characters were based on?
"Did they get you to trade your heroes for ghosts...?"
Re: DC Announces Before Watchmen
I certainly don't blame DC for doing this, and a few of the writer/artist combos are intriguing enough that I might pick up a few issues to try. It's far enough removed from Moore & Gibbon's work for me that they'll probably feel more like movie tie-ins than prequels to the original series.
This post has been carefully constructed so as to add absolutely nothing to any discussion or topic.

Re: DC Announces Before Watchmen
Definitely agree on that. But I would be more interested in a new take on those Charlton characters. But since that includes Captain Atom and Blue Beetle who have been very integrated into the DCU, I don't think that could ever happen.hulk181man wrote:Interesting idea...but the Watchmen characters will sell more copies. Re: DC Announces Before Watchmen
Indeed, and that is why this is something that I might check out. Not sure I will purchase without reading a few pages, first, but I am definitely going to crack open the first few issues and see what they have to offer. The creative teams comprise some of my faves, so I'm leaning towards thinking this might get added. That, or I will wait for the TPB's and concentrate on the VALIANT monthlies.Heath wrote:Definitely agree on that. But I would be more interested in a new take on those Charlton characters. I wish I could say 'I could care less', but that's not true. A Rorschach series would be cool if done well. He was the only character I cared for. All the others could've jumped off a cliff for all I cared.

I remember thinking that when I first read it - a hundred or so years ago - and hating everyone else.steverino wrote:I wish I could say 'I could care less', but that's not true. Now, I identify with him much less. And sometimes with Comedian. More often with the Owl. When I'm *SQUEE*, I agree with Ozymandias, and when I want to be left alone, with Dr. Manhattan.
I remember reading an interview with someone... Perhaps it was Moore... Talking about how he stressed the most over writing Rorschach because he wanted to make it real - and not at all a caricature.

Re: DC Announces Before Watchmen
Hearing about this today inspired me to re-read Watchmen...not my old beat-up, dirty TPB, but I went out and purchased a new printing w/ the "Absolute" coloring...to experience it again all-new
Just read the first issue and hot-damn...when you're in the mood to read this, it is like the finest of wines!!!!
Now, regarding the "Before Watchmen" titles...yeah, i'll probably get them all
I'm really interested in the Adam Hughes' illustrated "Dr. Manhattan" title and the Jae Lee "Ozymandus"
Curious...DC mentioned them being weekly...is it one issue a week or one issue of each mini per week?

So is that what Absolute Watchmen is? Recoloring? I've seen it at the comic shop many times and I always wondered what warranted the high price tag.JonesyAZ wrote:Hearing about this today inspired me to re-read Watchmen...not my old beat-up, dirty TPB, but I went out and purchased a new printing w/ the "Absolute" coloring...to experience it again all-newJust read the first issue and hot-damn...when you're in the mood to read this, it is like the finest of wines!!!!

Re: DC Announces Before Watchmen
Not just recoloring. The book is the size of the original comics art pages, is high-end, and also has Moore's plot outline and character outline, and I think a script sample. Can't remember what else, though.etos45 wrote:So is that what Absolute Watchmen is? Recoloring?
