Industrial Gothic by Ted Mckeever. (1-5 mini series)
I'm wondering if anyone has read this? It is slightly disturbing but...... there is some reason I want to finish it.
It is for sure a Vertigo book, and really out there.
I went through a big time McKeever phase in the mid to late 90's. Tracked down and read just about everything of his, but as much as I like his art the only story or series I ever wanted to read twice was The Extremist. And Peter Milligan wrote that.
This post has been carefully constructed so as to add absolutely nothing to any discussion or topic.

I just read three old issues of Groo. Classic.
That's one funny mendicant.

I was with you with the art. The first time I saw it, totally not into it.
Then after a few books, I love it. It is perfect for the book. I have a hard time imagining anyone not liking Chew. It is a GREAT example of what the medium can be.

I'm reading Cage's "Thunderbolts" and this series is fantastic! Luke Cage has never been better, the stories are cool and the characters' interaction is fascinating, especially how they use Man-Thing. Simply brilliant. I can't believe how good Kev Walker's art is. I had never heard of this guy before and he's amazing. If Guy Davis ever leaves BPRD, Kev would be an excellent replacement. I can't recommend this series more highly. VERY cool book.

I just started re-reading The Fallen Angel Omnibus vol. 0 which reprints the full run of The Fallen Angel vol. 1 #1-20 from DC.
You know there are stories you read that you like, and then years later when you re-read them they are not as great as you remember, well this certianly is NOT one of them! I read and still have all 20 issues of the DC run of The Fallen Angel and I thought they were good now re-reading them in IDW's new omnibus, they are actually BETTER than I remembered. The Fallen Angel is Peter David's best work ever.

So I'm looking at the Omnibus on Amazon and saw these:
http://www.amazon.com/Fallen-Angel-Omni ... 982&sr=1-1" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
http://www.amazon.com/Fallen-Angel-Omni ... 982&sr=1-2" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
What's the difference between the two besides the price?

Just finished reading Star Wars: Crimson Empire I, II & III #1. Awesome all the way through. The new third series looks like it's bridging everything from "Dark Empire" to the current Invasion/Yuzaan Vong/New Jedi Order era of books. Alot of original trilogy character cameos in this.
Now i'm about to hit Mass Effect & Peanuts #0 from kaboom.

Re: What comics are you reading now?
Daredevil #5 - 4/5 - They continue to use lame villains and emphasize the fact that DD is blind. Good stuff.

Invincible #83 - 4/5 - A typical Invincible issue. A bit of action, a bit of dialogue, several plot points moving along. The new stuff with Tether Tyrant, Robot and Monster Girl is interesting.

Spider Island: Deadly Hands of Kung Fu #1-3 - 4/5 - If you liked Immortal Iron Fist, this is a bit of a soft continuation of that book. It kind of filled that void for me and Iron Fist and the Immortal Weapons were in this book as well. I'll be on the lookout for new Shang Chi stuff in the future. The Fiumara art is pretty cool too. Good stuff.

Walking dead #90 - 3/5 - I'm getting a bit tired on this book recently. Since issue 83 or whenever the big thing was, this has kind of all been about Rick and not at all about any of the other characters. It's getting a bit stale right now and honestly, I still have problems with how things went after that big issue. I can suspend my disbelief, but that's being stretched to the max recently on this book.

I have to agree. The last several issues have been less than stellar. As much as I love this book, I wish they would move the plot along faster. One of the things I loved about this book was that every issue left us fans with a cliffhanger. Now it's different. I still like the book though.

David does make use of a lot of Judaism/Christianity stories such as the title character being a literally a fallen angel and the city of Bete Noire being revealed as Enoch, the city that Cain built and that Juris the guy the ran city in the DC run and the father of the Fallen Angel's son, Jude, are descended from Cain. The really "controversy" comes when The Fallen Angel tells Jude that God wants to move on or die because he considers humanity to be his triumph and he wants to move on to other things, but humanity's faith is so strong that we won't let Him go and that is why we have stuff like Climate Change so we can leave God alone.
This book is a mature readers book so and the Fallen Angel is at times morally abmigous so if you're easily offended then you should advoid it and read his 80+ issue Supergirl series instead.
The book also several guest stars including Sachs & Violins, Shi, Illyria, and Linda Davers (kinda).

The Fallen Angel: The Return of the Son TPB reprints the four issue of the same name.

I just read this and completely aree with your assessment. Something is lacking and I feel like it is the lack of excitement. In additon, it has stopped being about survival and more about fortification of their positiion and talking about the feelings. There seems to be too much talking about what everybody is feeling or not feeling.Lightning Strike wrote:400yrs wrote:

I just read the first two issues of the Strange Talent of Luther Strode and loved it. Definitley 4.5/5 material here. Thank you 400yrs for your recommendation on this one.
Also, read Invincible #84 and it was alright. Mark is having another personal crisis and decides to do something (that he probably shouldn't). Like TWD, I haven't been happy with this series for the last several issues.

Re: What comics are you reading now?
finished my Comico Jonny Quest run. I really enjoyed the earliest issues the most, before the book settled on the permanent art team of Marc Hempel and Mark Wheatley. It's not that the later issues were bad art-wise, but just that I enjoyed the variety and different takes on Jonny Quest visually. All 31 issues were written by William Messner-Loebs, so the writing is consistent and excellent. The 3 issue Jonny Quest Classics is HIGHLY recommended, as they are all adaptations of Jonny Quest episodes by the artist who worked on the cartoon, Doug Wildey. Also recommended by Wildey (although having nothing to do with Jonny Quest) is his Rio graphic novels.
For your own benefit, skip the two Jonny Quest Specials. The writer is a science fiction author named Arthur Byron Cover. He may be a highly regarded sci-fi writer, but it appears to me he has no idea how to write a comic script that makes sense. Seriously, I could not make heads or tails out of either of these issues. On top of that, the artwork is pretty bad in these books, as well.
Currently making my way through the L.A.W. mini series by Layton and Giordano, which involves the Charlton heroes. Nothing special so far, just an average super hero crossover story. Well, I pulled the issues out of a quarter box, so I should at least get my monies' worth!

Re: What comics are you reading now?
Just read Sixth Gun Vol 1 and was the most fun I've had trade reading all year. The art is not dramatic and can be described as "cartoonish", but the story is solid. Not as serious a read as Walking Dead and other mature content horror titles but this is a book the industry should be promoting to bring in teenage readers. Very impressed. It reminds me of some of the best 70's/80's horror books. V2 on order and adding this title to my monthly list.

Also read Rachel Rising #1 and 2. Issue 1 was initially short on dialogue but picked up. The second issue finished with a surprise sequence with questions to be answered. Were good reads but felt short. Counted the pages and confirmed the 18 page length. Is this common for independents? Anyway, will continue to follow for now.
Up next.....Ex-Machina V1.
Monthly list.......BPRD, DHPresents, Rachel Rising, and Sixth Gun.

I'm loving the current stuff. Since the end of the Viltrumite war I've felt Kirkman has dealt with a slower story in an amazing way. We've been reintroduced to the whole cast, I've found some great humor in there and some pretty serious stuff is already starting to kick off again. Plus theres a bad-guy called Dinosauruscaxiotis wrote: Also, read Invincible #84 and it was alright. Mark is having another personal crisis and decides to do something (that he probably shouldn't). And this issues twist... WOW!
I couldn't wait a month for my copy of 84 to get hear so as I often do on this book, I went to the shop and got a copy.
While TWD is boring me a bit, this book is still doing it for me. I really have no idea where it's going. I know there was that teaser for 2012 a while back...... that should be interesting.
I hope that FCO is coming back on colors. While Ottley and Rathburn are knocking it out of the park, the new colorist seems too soft for the book.
I'm not really looking forward to the next 2 issues without Ottley because the art is likely going to hurt my eyes, but I'm interested to see where this story about Mark goes.

Re: What comics are you reading now?
Just re-read Batman / Judge Dredd: Judgment on Gotham. This was a book that was hyped a lot when it came out, but I always thought it lived up to it. I imagine a lot of people weren't expecting the level of violence in this one. It's be totally in place with the New-DCU, but for the early 90's it was some pretty extreme stuff. The art is tremendous. No one does mayhem like Biz. Story is a fun, silly, mega-violent romp that Wagner and Grant really take over the top. Scarecrow and Judge Death are hilarious to read and are pretty creepy at the same time. When the Scarecrow uses his fear gas on Judge Death and we see him surrounded by My Little Ponies? Classic!
As with most of Bisley's stuff, boobs and buttocks abound.

Re: What comics are you reading now?
Second_Death wrote: Also read Rachel Rising #1 and 2. Issue 1 was initially short on dialogue but picked up. The second issue finished with a surprise sequence with questions to be answered. Were good reads but felt short. Counted the pages and confirmed the 18 page length. Is this common for independents? Anyway, will continue to follow for now.
No. They are all different. Most Image books are 20 pages, but sometimes, you'll get a 32-40 page Image book for $2.99 (like Morning Glories does often).
Rachel Rising #1 may have been the quickest I've ever read on a new book. If I recall correctly, it was $3.99 wasn't it? That's too damn much for so little content.
