Re: Time for MOTA to return?
Is MOTA's absence still imposed by greg, or is it self-imposed by MOTA himself?
I was under the impression it was the latter...

I would agree with you, but then we'd both be wrong.

Greg, let Mike back. He's paid his dues. I'm sure he'd behave himself a lot better than he did once upon a time. I base this on seeing his behavior elsewhere and seeing a calmer, saner version of him. He still has his passions and his convictions, but the edge seems gone.

Re: Time for MOTA to return?
Conspicuously absent from the arguments is Greg.
My assumption is that a suspension could be removed if/when some criteria were met (vs a ban).
My guess - these two need to see if whatever has been met.
If yes - back in.
If not - fugeddabout it.
As much as we debate - these two need to decide.

Stopped by a different board last night. Can't recall which one. Next to Mike's name it said " banned."

Re: Time for MOTA to return?
We're a community here, and we've always been a very forgiving community.
Suspensions and banning aren't handed out until we've forgiven someone so many times we can't count them.
Rest assured, the people we're talking about have some terrific qualities, so the decision to prevent them from posting was not an easy one.
I would really like to hear from these individuals why they feel they should be allowed back, if they want to come back.
If nothing has changed, we're simply setting ourselves up to be fooled again.
If they still believe that they should be allowed to say whatever they want and just tell others to ignore them, then nothing has changed and we don't need to go through this process.
I'm confident that anyone who would like to return has my email address, or they know someone on this board who would post a message from them either publicly in this topic or privately to me.
So, I'm opening it up to them... if you want to come back, please tell me (or tell all of us) why you should be allowed back.
(I've moved this topic to General Discussion so it can be viewed by everyone.)

As long as they bring ice cream with them to share, it's all good.

Re: Time for MOTA to return?
As usual Greg anwers with reason and restraint. These polls pop up from time to time and most people, myself included, want some form of "amnesty" for those who have been banned for sometimes making comments that incite the board or are just plain nasty and distasteful.greg wrote:We're a community here, and we've always been a very forgiving community.

I think Greg does have a point though. Do these guys want to be included on the board again? If so, why don't they reach out to him? I can understand the embarassment of having to ask Greg if they can come back, but, in my opinion now, just go ahead and ask and see what happens.

Good Point! But I like Pink, I tend to hoard things that are Pink when I see them.

Re: Time for MOTA to return?
I said:
He said that that alone outweighs any desire he would have to discuss comics because, and I quote, "let's be honest, that's something that I can do elsewhere."
Since MOTA did not address my concern that "nothing has changed", I responded that I wasn't concerned about other people on the board who've never had problems,
and I asked specifically: "Has anything changed with (or within) you?
MOTA replied to say that the only real reason he would want to come back is what he stated in the first email.
Again, MOTA did not address my concern that "nothing has changed".
I responded again and asked, "Why should I believe anything would be different this time?"
MOTA replied: "You should ask the others why they want me back and how things would be different if I did go back."
I replied to ask if I could share these discussions with the board.
MOTA replied: "sure"
--------------------------------------------------
I've given MOTA three separate and direct opportunities to tell me if anything has changed.
His answers have avoided my question and he only points to you, his friends, as his reason to return to the board.
While I'm sure that he has friends on this board, I'm equally sure that he can contact those friends any number of ways besides using this board.
It is clear that nothing has changed. I said: "if nothing has changed, we're just setting ourselves up to be fooled again."
ManOfTheAtom's status has been changed from "Currently serving suspension" to "No Longer A Registered User".
I hope he finds a messageboard where he can discuss comics, as he said, "elsewhere".
MOTA sent me an email stating that he should be allowed back because 20 people want him back, and he considers many people on the board friends.greg wrote:I would really like to hear from these individuals why they feel they should be allowed back, if they want to come back.

Just so I'm clear, what types of thing would get one banned? I know we are all passionate about our little funny books. I'm just wondering where the line is drawn, on the outside chance my zeal gets the best of me.

Re: Time for MOTA to return?
That's a shame about MOTA. I don't understand what would be so hard about saying, "Yes, things will be different this time. I can be civil." I mean, I see him post on Facebook all of the time and he never really gets in anyone's face, so I know he can do it.
Anyways, Greg, you were fair and if that's the way the decision has to go down then I respect it.
I know that you have to try pretty hard to get banned from this site.
(I hate ice cream... did that do it?)

Re: Time for MOTA to return?
Actually I saw Dino on facebook a while back telling "people" to be nice and respect other people's opinions. I was pretty sure he was talking to MOTA with that comment.
Obviously MOTA's response to Greg says he didn't really want to come back anyways.

I must have missed the Dino thing. He gets passionate on there sometimes, but I don't ever see him really crossing the line.Crow331 wrote:Actually I saw Dino on facebook a while back telling "people" to be nice and respect other people's opinions. It seems to me more that MOTA wants to come back, he just doesn't want to admit any wrong doing to do it. A shame, really.
"Just say you'll behave."
"20 people want me back"
"C'mon, dude!"
"I like ice cream."
"Sigh... me too... you're still banned, though"
