Classic arcade game - can't remember
Anyone help?
I recall a classic arcade game, in the late 80's or early 90's, with a scrolling screen moving upwards. It was a two player cooperative game, where you would shoot oncoming enemies, fighting occasional bosses. I seem to recall long "worms" with segments that you had to destroy from the back forwards (I think). You would also get various power ups and stuff, if I recall correctly. I think it may have had some sci-fi/fantasy motif.
I know it isn't much to go on. I remember spending many quarters on it with a friend or two, trying to reach the end.
Thanks!
Chris

No, in this game you were definitely flying. Maybe with a jet pack or something.

No, you were actually moving up (not forward into the game). It would scroll from top to bottom.
Contra I think was side scrolling, and you were an army guy (or something like that)
ARGH! I can't remember!

Yep, if you hadn't said that it scrolled upwards, you would have described Contra perfectly.cjv wrote:Contra I think was side scrolling, and you were an army guy (or something like that)

Zaxxon?
I would agree with you, but then we'd both be wrong.

That was a GREAT game. But it went side to side-ish.Heath wrote:Zaxxon?

Re: Classic arcade game - can't remember
The one you make me think of (and I can not remember the name, arrg) had a completely flat top-down perspective. One could move freely within the current view of the scrolling page but not more than that. Enemies could be destroyed or passed. Some came in groups, some alone (and they could break away from their groups and come at you quicker), some as connected worms. Most of them fired at you, possibly not all. The scrolling only stopped when one had to fight a base. I played it on a PC.cjv wrote:Nope.

That sounds vaguely correct.
I played it in the arcade, however.
I *think* it might have had a dial/paddle as one of the controllers.

Could it have been Raiden?
Re: Classic arcade game - can't remember
That's the one I remember. Thanks. I do see now that it is not as close to Chris' memories as I thought.Daniel Jackson wrote:Could it have been Raiden?
