Are you out of eyeliner again?400yrs wrote:Sandman Vol 5 - I read through more than half of this and then started skimming. I like this book better when dream is in it. The one is all about Barbie.
I'm done with Sandman. I'm not saying it's bad. It's not my thing. It's much too fantasy for me and that's a genre I can't stand. I'm certain there are some fantastic stories I'll be missing, but I just can't stand to read through anything like vol 5 again.

I'm still slowly reading my way through the Modernism book I posted about a little while back, usually just reading a chapter or 2 before I go to sleep, but I'm also still working my way through my back issue runs that I haven't gotten around to in the past year or 2.
I just started on the late-90s JLA a couple of days ago. I'm only about 9 issues in, so I'm diving into the Morrison run on the book. I've got through issue 42 right now, but I've got Mark Waid's run of 43-58 on it's way from Mile High, along with Claremont and Byrne's 6-issue run on 94-99 and Kurt Busiek's run on 107-114 both coming in from Lone Star.
I've got to say that I'm seriously digging what I've read so far on JLA. I totally get what people say about it being "widescreen."

I just finished all 24 issues of The Sword. It gave me chills, an excellent story.caxiotis wrote:Just read the first 18 issues of The Sword by the Luna Brothers. This story is amazing. I am surprised that I did not find it sooner.
I'm going to pick up Girls and Ultra. I hope they're on the same level!

The first 4 or 5 volumes of Jack of Fables are pretty cool. I liked JOF up through the Great Fables Crossover and then stopped. It was just going a bit too far in terms of looniness.400yrs wrote:Will Eisner Reader - I like the longer stories better than the quick one page ones.
Jack of Fables vol 1 - I liked it. Revise seems like a pretty cool character. I might look out for these on the cheap.

The ASM .1 issue with Thompson as Venom gave me some hope. The #1 issue wasn't as good as that issue, but I think it will get stronger as they go on.Chiclo wrote:Venom #1 - Flash Thompson, Venom, dropped.400yrs wrote:Venom #1 - Flash Thompson, Venom, Rick Remender, Tony Moore.
It just didn't grab me. I was on the fence about the book from the beginning.

With the DK books slow to release, have had some time to read other material.
After Dark (Radical)....Was ok but nothing really new. Love the format that most Radical books use. I believe it is called prestige format?
Driver for the Dead (Radical).....Not recommended. Just didn't do it for me.
Unknown (Boom).....Rather unusual read. Beginning to think Waid may be my favorite modern writer not named Shooter. Plan to pickup the followup series.
H2O (Dynamite)......Not bad as well. Again, nothing really new but enjoyed it just the same.
The Outlaw Prince (DH)......Thoroughly enjoyed this book. Probably helps that I've never read the original book by Edgar Rice Burroughs to compare it to. Anyway, only comic I've enjoyed more this year was Solar #5. I hope there is a second. HIGHLY recommended.
I just received the Walking Dead compendium and look forward to starting it soon.
