Touristy things? Disneyland or Sea World (both VERY cool)
Comics? Check out http://www.frankandsonshow.net/ It is a bi-weekly show on Wed. and Sat. VERY, VERY cool. Like a mini comic con. Tons of cheap bins.
Food? Original Tommy's Burger. http://www.originaltommys.com/

Not true. C-lo you must be thinking about somewhere else. It's just out of LA and about 1hr and 30min north of San D.Chiclo wrote:Between the convention center and Tijuana on I-5.depluto wrote:Where is City of Industry?
I drove through there every day the first time I went in '06. We stayed in San Ysidro which is pretty much on the border.
If you are flying in on Wed. to LA and driving down to SD, I would recommend you stop and check it out. It will not really be out of your way at all. I know there might be a few dudes not there (already down in SD), but it will still be worth your time. And your kid will love it. There is a lot to see.

I'll be in Rancho Cucamonga (sp?) earlier in the week, we'll drive down from there. This sounds like it might be cool.Elveen wrote:Not true. C-lo you must be thinking about somewhere else. If anyone is spending some time in L.A. before or after the con and wants to take a tour, my new Movie Location Tours company will be a fully operational battle station by then. Shoot me a PM and I'll give you the Valiant discount

Well, I'll be around Tuesday...Dr. Solar wrote:OK, just switched up my hotel reservation a bit. I'll be staying downtown Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday nights, transferring out to the sticks for Friday and Saturday nights.
Anyone getting there a bit early? I'll be getting in to San Diego Tuesday afternoon.
Where in "the sticks" are you transferring?
I think you mean National City, or possibly Chula Vista. You would have driven through both from San Ysidro to the convention center.Chiclo wrote:Between the convention center and Tijuana on I-5.depluto wrote:Where is City of Industry?

It will about 20 min (or so) away from you.
There is a pretty decent store in Rancho also.

Dude, I would actually love to do that, but I'm booked pretty solid visiting friends. Next time I'm out that way, though ...Crow331 wrote:If anyone is spending some time in L.A. before or after the con and wants to take a tour, my new Movie Location Tours company will be a fully operational battle station by then. Cool. I'll probably hit you up on Tuesday.Blood of Heroes wrote:Well, I'll be around Tuesday...Dr. Solar wrote:OK, just switched up my hotel reservation a bit. I'll be staying downtown Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday nights, transferring out to the sticks for Friday and Saturday nights.

On Friday I'm moving to a hotel by the airport, the same place I stayed last year.
Sounds good. For anyone else, use the code VALIANT on the website for $15 off a ticket. Hope to see you!depluto wrote:Dude, I would actually love to do that, but I'm booked pretty solid visiting friends. Might want to try to get into the room where the panel is held during the panel or two prior to the panel you want. They don't clear out rooms between panels and there are capacity limits.depluto wrote:OK, so let's say I want to go see a panel like the one for Game of Thrones.
What's involved in that? When should I get there? Is it worth it? Any tips?
I only went to a few panels. It's a big hassle in most cases. Except for the Dynamite panel - there was plenty of room in that one.

Yeah, it just depends on how popular the panel is. At BTE's (where is that guy?) Valiant Fans panel, there was plenty of room. At the Twilight panel, not so much...

The general rule is that if the panel is ONLY about comics, you will have no trouble getting in.
If it is ONLY about a popular TV show or movie, it will have long lines and will be hard to get in.
There are always a few random things that are popular and hard to get into. I wanted to see a panel that was Adam Hughes doing an original drawing, showing how he draws and composes images, and even getting there 45 minutes early, the line was horrendously long.
