Blew through the last half of Seven Soldiers yesterday. Today is my last day off on my vacation, so I think I'm gonna begin re-reading Proof from the very beginning, now that I've finally completed my collection!

Draco wrote:Marvel Vs DC and the tie in mini series that come after.

The actual mini itself is pretty bland, but in all fairness not as bad as i had always believed it to be.
That said though it wasnt exactly the best thing either.

Ill update when i read all Access etc.

:thumb:
So i just done the All Access mini and it was as expected, which was quite bland.
It made me glad i didnt read as much of the tosh Marvel did in the mid 90's as i could have considering how much my buddy bought when i quit retail in ' 93.
It felt more Marvel bad than it did DC, but maybe that is just me as i did enjoy more DC by the mid 90's.
My buddy took his time getting all the DC books off the shelf each week, but once he did i was happy for him.
However he missed the boat on these and so even though i owned them before i never picked them up till now.
DC was so much more interesting for me after Zero hour ( which was average at best) and so it was a shame to see the characters so badly and under utilised here, same goes for Marvel too.

I skipped the Amalgam stuff in between as i had read a chunk before and they are all self contained as far as i recall, though could understand how they all tie into the bigger Universe moulding without being required reading.

Anyway im rambling again, so ill come back after Access unlimited.

Cyberstrike wrote:Thunderstrike vol. 2 #1 Every since Tom DeFalco brought the character back in the MC2 Universe I always wondered when and if Kevin Masterson would fill his father's shoes. Finally he has. Kevin Masterson is a vicious bully and a punk (and that is what Sharon Carter says in the book) who hates superheroes and blames them for his father's death. His mother has remarried to a former sports star-turned sports reporter and she owns a series of health clubs. When Kevin meets Sharon Carter who takes him to see Steve Rogers who gives Kevin his father's mace, when Kevin first grabs the mace and nothing happens he thinks that Rogers is playing a joke on him and Carter returns him to NYC.

Walking home with the mace Kevin sees the Rhino breaking outs of some Russian spies and flips a car over with a mother and a baby in the backseat a spark lights the gas leaking and as the fire comes closer Kevin uses the mace as a crowbar and then he becomes Thunderstrike and he looks just like his late father as Kevin battles the Rhino while news crews film this Kevin's mother sees this and faints at her one of her health clubs and Rogers thinks that Eric Masterson has come back from the dead.
The Rhino knocks Kevin into a building and the Rhino then flees, Kevin stumbling through the debris sees his reflection in a piece of a glass and sees that the mace has transformed into the exact likeness of his father.

A mysterious man has detected the magical energy detected by Thunderstrike's return and states he wants it for his collection.

Meanwhile in Valhalla Sif tells a young Valerye Gunehelda the backstory of Thunderstrike and then tells her to go to Earth to teach Kevin how to use the Thunderstrike.

Tom DeFalco does a great job of setting up the new Thunderstrike and I like for once the angry teen has a legitimate reason to be angry. The only thing I don't like about the story is that Steve Rogers comes off as very dense, while I understand his reasons for giving Kevin the mace, I think Sharon Carter is the one I would side with. The art by Ron Frenz and Sal Buscema isn't flashy but gets the job done. The back up story's art by Todd Nauck is OK but gets confusing.

Overall If you liked or love the MC2 line then this is a series you should check out, it's about as old school as Marvel is going to get it seems.

Oh, and it's not that I'm scared of zombies, I just find them boring as hell along with vampires & werewolves and most supernatural oriented *SQUEE* that's been beaten to death by bringing up multiple versions.

I read Solar #4 and Mighty Samson #1 yesterday. Solar gets better each issue. Samson was a good origin issue. I have always loved that concept and look forward to future issues.

I hate zombies. I REALLY HATE ZOMBIES! They are the lamest, most stupid monsters and every freaking zombies is the SAME damn story.

I hate whiney crybaby emo vampires.

I love bad @$$ vampires.

I can take or leave werewolves and superheroes.

I'll take giant transforming robots over superheroes, vampires (badd @$$ and emo), werewolves, and zombies everyday of the week.

"This is the story of people, trying to survie in a a world bound by danger. the backdrop is a zombie infested world that nobody knows how it came about. read the drama as these people fight for their lives, trying to find their place, or a cure, for the zombie terror!"

Or some *SQUEE* like that, right?

Sorry, would be bored. Heroes aren't even the same, it's why I'm highly selective.

if you look at it logically, super-heroes always have the potential to be much more diverse than flesh-eating undead humans/animals.

that's because zombies are brain dead and are always motivated by just one thing: food.

Read 66-75 of Green Arrow and then all but 31 & 32 of Green Arrow/Black Canary. The end of the first series was almost perfect, in that final panel, but the sequel series, once Winick left, was a hot mess. I never thought I'd miss Winnick that much but damn if I didn't. Don't even get me started on the art. It was worse than the writing and that was bad enough. The thing about the series was that it felt like one big long chase and instead of being thrilling and exhausting, in a good way, it was just bad and even downright boring, by the end. Characters came and went with little rhyme or reason and plot points were dropped more than dimes in old Chicago. What a mess.

I get what you are saying about the zombies, but that's not my point. You've read TWD, right?

My point is not about zombies at all. You could drop these same characters into any other end-of-the-world situation or setting like disease, nuclear warfare, or whatever and the story would still be interesting because it's about the human characters and their interactions.

On another note, TWD keeps rocking the TPB sales charts:

http://www.newsarama.com/comics/diamind ... 10106.html

5 of the top 10 trade sales were TWD trades. I think I recall this being the case the last several years as well. And the book not only sells in comic shops, I'd bet that it's one of the top selling trades at book stores as well. This book reaches a wide audience..... much wider than comic book super hero geeks.

The entire series was beset with writing turmoil. They had 44 issues or so and something like 5 writers and 6 editors. NOT a recipe for a consistent book.

I don't mind Guy when he's written well, but when he's written badly he can be one of the worst advertisements for comics. Luckily more recently he's had some better writers so the whole 'Gardener smash' nonsense seems to be finished and he's developing a personality that isn't just insulting.

I've read the first TPB at a friend's house. Enjoyed it enough to start buying the hardcovers. I'm up to book 5 but haven't read 'em yet. I've quit reading unfinished stories ... so I'm anxious for Kirkman to wrap it all up. However, with the continued success of the TV show, I doubt he'll be looking to do that any time soon.

On a similar note, my fiance has been enjoying the hardcovers ... as has a friend of hers.

You're going to be waiting a while. There's no end in sight. Kirkman has said he's going to keep writing TWD for as long as he can.

Yeah, Kirkman has talked about going to 200 and onward. That's a pretty big investment for something you aren't going to read for a while.
