AND FROM VAULT-KEEPERmrwoogieman wrote:I always took the 'Black Diamond' appellation as a reference to the difficulty given to various ski runs, a black diamond run being for very difficult trails. Since it was such a complete collection, it was very difficult to acquire. It made sense in my mind, at least.
Hey Billy, clear this up, will ya?![]()
"I think the original owner of the Black Diamond Collection (Billy Walker) named it that because he is a big KISS fan. KISS had a song titled Black Diamond on their 1st album in 1974. The BD collection was retired from the list after it was sold last May. As far as I know, the new owner hasn't re-registered the collection to the inventory. Billy posted the last of his Valiant extras in B/S/T last week. Hi, Bill!"
Vault-Keeper was correct. I have been a KISS fan a bit longer than a Valiant fan so when it came time to "name" my collection I used Black Diamond because it's one of my favorite songs. When the Black Diamond I collection sold I used some of the proceeds to buy an original 1973 Hotel Diplomat concert poster from KISS' club days. This poster was owned by Lydia Criss-wife of original drummer Peter Criss. These days my KISS collection is much larger than my Valiant collection. However, when I sold the full set off in 2004, I kept my original purchases from 1993 (Harbinger 1, Solar 1, Rai 1-4, etc.). So I have a box of Valiants somewhere in my stack. I found the Acclaim box today and it had a few key Valiants in it as well.
I'm glad I used Black Diamond I for the 2004 collection. I can start the Black Diamond II collection but it will never be as extensive as what I had back then. I'm glad to see Greg has kept the site going for so long. I checked in over the years but never long enough to post. Until September, I hadn't bought a Valiant comic since 2004. I may have picked up some Acclaims along the way as I have multiple issues of V3 Shadowman and Unity 2000. I bought the first couple of issues of Dark Horse's Solar and Magnus and was disappointed.
It's good to be back.

Black Diamond I
Well, I did some research and the buyer of the BD I collection now resides overseas. I don't know which side of "the pond" the collection is on...
