12/26 - 1/1/2011 18 issues (241)

First yearbook (EW) was not very good at all.

Harbinger 24 and 25 were good. I'm not looking foward to the next bunch of them at all.

The first Bedard issue of Magnus felt like it didn't pick up from the last issue at all. That was weird. Writing in a jokey Magnus didn't feel right either.

1/2 - 1/8/2011 - 14 issues total, 1 not read (255)

This week's books really sucked!

I'm right at the beginning of the Valiant Vision junk. Back in the day, I think the only book that I was still reading at this point was Harbinger because it was my favorite back then. I know I stopped reading that one around 28 or so.

I'm going to keep pushing on for now, but I'm starting to question why.

Just keep going! Lol...

While the later books are certainly of less quality, you might find that you enjoy a book here and there.

1/9 - 1/15/2011 only 7 issues read.

I started with about 2-3 books per day the first few days of this week. However, reading that crap in Second Life of Dr. Wuss-bag and His Racially-Ambiguous Wife #4 about the Darque Bull, ........ Well, that was like a punch in the head to my intelligence as a reader.

Not that I'd want to, but I'm not reading anymore tonight. We are going out and getting sloshed sans kids and then will have copious amounts of sexy time. That's how you do it, Dr. Mirage, you friggin puss!!

Would a true comics fan prefer sex to comics? :P

Dr Mirage was another "could have been great".

Instead it was:

Hey Crazylegs, you know I hate the gooey stuff!

I'll take care of it....Hi-Yah!

If only we could still have sex baby!

I think I'm going to shift my way of reading. If I find an issue that I like, instead of reading all the other titles before getting back to it, I'm going to move ahead with the title. When it drops off or I get bored, I'll jump back to the other titles in the cycle.

Reason - I kind of liked the last issues of Turok and Bloodshot. Then I have to stop that and read Hard Corps? Really? I'm going to try to make this as pleasant as possible.

Man, I don't know if I'm even going to get through that whole series. I can't believe it made it for another 14 issues.

So far, Hard Corps and Dr. Mirage have to be the worst series.

Turok and Secret Weapons are surprisingly ok.

I enjoyed Secret Weapons in the first half of the series more than the second, although the first few books of the new direction weren't bad. I hated HC by the end. I found Dr. Mirage a fun, if slightly flawed, series. Turok started out BAD, but turned great around the time of Chaos Effect.

The future stories were somewhat enjoyable.

So I definitely didn't finish it. However, I'm considering taking the approach of getting drunk and taking down some of the really bad series as much as possible. I don't think that Hard Corps or Armorines cross into Chaos Effect at all so I think that might be doable after I get past the HC crossover with Harby issues.

I'm enjoying the future stories and the Livewire/Stronghold stories ok. However, the Hard Corps / Armorines and anything having to do with the Weaponeer / Webnet just doesn't interest me.

I'm taking that dare. But I double dare you to read Psi-Lords!

I didn't care for Stronghold too much, and then I was pleasantly surprised with the way the story went. It gave interesting insight into Harada. Not sure if you've read it already, so I won't give any spoilers but it is a highlight in an otherwise bland character.

I read Hard Corps 1-3. I wouldn't really call it a whimper of a start. It's been okay. In issue 2 you can still see Jim's influence. One of Jim's rules for good story telling is making sure you introduce your characters. 2 begins with a straight up roll call. Good idea for the second issue of a book. When Shakespeare shoves his hand into Big Boy's mouth? That was pretty intense.
I like Mike Leeke's art and believe that he was one of the under appreciated highlights of post Unity Valiant.

#3 has a BWS cover! Wooo! Okay it's bad if all I remember is the cover, isn't it. I liked that Hammerhead was kinda racist, because hey, sometimes people are. Of course it was "fixed" far too soon and without a legitimate reason.

At the end of the issue he and Flatline shake hands, but they do so left handed. I've asked this before, but why do artist's do that? If you "flip the negative" wouldn't it be right, and still the shot you're after?

Any one know?

The characters are definitely introduced, but there's nothing to get me attached to these characters at all. Even halfway through, there's still nothing.

Maybe the bald dude because he's bald and they show his daughter. Superstar just because he dies? Nah.

I think aside from the characters, the other problem that I have with the whole idea is that the stories are predictable. You know what is going to come - they will see people from their past. They will have trouble switching powers. Soft Corps will get taken out and then there's no one to switch the powers.

The whole thing was just a bad idea IMO that could've been done in 6-8 issues, if it had to be done at all.
