While the latter is something that has never been said in a delivery room, it could easily become the phrase that pays $10,000 in U.S. savings bonds towards college tuition or other childhood expenses for one lucky family. Giving an entirely new meaning to Labor Day Weekend, Acclaim Entertainment, Inc. today announced its `Turok: Evolution' Labor Day contest that will award $10,000 to the first infant born on 9-1-02 and named `Turok' for one year by their parents. Turok: Evolution Baby Naming Contest

For the first time, "pushing your luck" could mean $10,000! If you're a parent expecting a child with a due date on or around 9-1-02 and are willing to legally name your baby `Turok' for one year, visit www.turok.com/baby and pre-register for the contest. Out of the list of applicants, if your child is the first one born on Sunday, 9-1-02, then your brand new little dinosaur hunter, `Turok', will get $10,000 in U.S. Savings Bonds.

Winners must provide official proof of birth with time and date from a hospital within the United States. In addition, winners must also sign a legally binding intent form to name their child's first name "Turok". $10,000 in United States Series EE Savings Bonds will be awarded to the winner upon furnishing a valid birth certificate that clearly indicates the baby's first name as "Turok" to Acclaim Entertainment. Hmm...I don't ever remember reading anything about a winner for that contest. They also tried to buy up some advertising space on tombstones for the Shadowman game. I think they said that one was a joke later though.

TUROK: EVOLUTION

One 25-year-old "gamer" claimed on July 18th that he was planning on breaking the world record for the longest time standing in line. What was he waiting for? The September 6th release of Turok: Evolution.

The gamer and his tent disappeared from his Oxford Street camp after two weeks queuing and a lot of publicity. Sources claim a bald man bundled him into an Acclaim vehicle at 4am on his last morning there and took him away to a dark room for de-briefing and a wad of cash.

Those lucky lucky winners who changed their names to "Turok" by deed poll
Acclaim also devised a PR experiment which they named "Identity Marketing."

First they offered $10,000 for any parent willing to horribly scar their precious child by naming them "Turok".

Acclaim then offered to pay gamers for the privilege of changing their names by deed poll to "Turok" for an entire year. It claimed the promotion was the idea of a Dr. Simeon Cantrell of Australia's Marketing Science Centre, author of a book called Market Their Pants Off.

Unfortunately, Dr. Cantrell doesn't exist and insterestingly the book's ISBN number was actually a book of knock-knock jokes.

SHADOWMAN 2

On the release of it's Shadowman 2 game, Acclaim made a statement to say it would pay relatives of the recently bereaved in return for placing Shadowman 2 advertisements on headstones.

Acclaim insisted that it was a genuine offer and claimed that the marketing ideas for the game were valid. The firm went on to claim that "advertising on gravestones falls outside of codes of conduct and regulations of any formal advertising bodies".

Naturally, the story made every gaming website and mainstream paper and the Church of England was forced to issue a statement saying they would never allow any of its graveyards to be used in such a fashion. A spokesman for Acclaim's London office rejected the notion that this might be nothing more than a cynical media stunt.

BURNOUT 2

To celebrate the release of the game Burnout 2 on October 11th in the UK, Acclaim offered to pay off any fines of any driver caught by speed cameras. A very irresponsible move, but very clever PR. Lovely.

My wife is pregnant with our second and I'm really pushing Magnus. It's on the shortlist (but I fear it won't win). I also suggested Gilad and Ivar but those were immediately shot down.

My sons name is Archer.
But it is not based on the comic book.
It is a direct link to my name ~ Armstrong.

No really it links to my name ~ Fletcher.

Strangley enough, I am a huge fan of Archer and Armstrong. But did not even pick up the connection untill Draco pointed it out when I met him.

Point out to her that it's a common name in the nordic countries (I am afraid that you yourself will have to find something she can like about these countries).

It's a royal name if that helps any. It's also the translation of great, as in Carolus Magnus = Charles the Great = Charlemagne.

Several athletes and even two winners of World's Strongest Man are named Magnus (Magnus Samuelsson and Magnus ver Magnusson).

Will Farrell named his son Magnus.

And there's also the comic book character...
