Maybe they don't do well at the box office ?ian_house wrote:I wonder why they haven't put 2+2 together?IMJ wrote:Exactly... if they made a CGi Animated Batman movie like that it'd probably break the bank at the box office.ian_house wrote:I could quite happily watch a movie with this kind of animation, games really have got up to that cinematic level now.
I remember watching Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within and thinking 'hey this is pretty good'. And that was back in 2001 !! Look at what they can do now. But making a movie like this is A LOT of work and expensive, so a big risk in my book.
Later watching Beowulf, I was impressed (a bit) again... but I consider this a computer assisted film and not a CGI film as motion capture was used.Square Pictures rendered the film using some of the most advanced processing capabilities available for film animating at the time. A render farm consisting of 960 workstations was tasked with rendering each of the film's almost 141,964 frames. It took a staff of 200 some four years to complete the film.
The Spirits Within debuted to mixed critical reception, but was widely praised for the realism of the computer-animated characters. Due to rising costs, the film greatly exceeded its original budget towards the end of production, reaching a final cost of US$137 million, of which it made back only $85 million at the box office.

To be fair both of those were pretty poor in script/storytelling/acting. The CGI was one of the few redeeming features. With the kind of team you have working on the Arkham games I think they could be looking at hundreds and hundreds of millions in the box office... and then the console game.Knightt wrote:Maybe they don't do well at the box office ?ian_house wrote:I wonder why they haven't put 2+2 together?IMJ wrote:Exactly... if they made a CGi Animated Batman movie like that it'd probably break the bank at the box office.ian_house wrote:I could quite happily watch a movie with this kind of animation, games really have got up to that cinematic level now.

You guys are going to think I'm nuts, but while I enjoy the Bale movies I think they are still very far from the definitive Batman.
I've been on a roll lately with just throwing the against-the-norms out there. First the Rodimus thing, and then the Bale's Batman are good movies, but not definitive Batman the way they could be. This becomes clearer when you see stuff like the Arkham Asylum Batman stuff.

That's no way near as outrageous as the Rodimus remark! I agree to be fair. The Nolan Bat films are great fun but not definitive, we're yet to see a definitive Bat film imo.IMJ wrote:You guys are going to think I'm nuts, but while I enjoy the Bale movies I think they are still very far from the definitive Batman.

Agreed. Oldman as Gordan was genius.Daniel Jackson wrote:He has done a decent job with the Batman films (except for the voice), but I wouldn't be opposed to the idea of Warner trying to find another actor to play the role.Knightt wrote:I find the Bale films very enjoyable... but IMO it is the supporting cast that has made the movies.![]()

Absolutely! And Caine as Alfred was incredibly well played. The supporting cast were terrific in both movies. They need to finally ditch the armored batsuit and get an agile fighter who can actually run and maneuver from roof tops rather than glide around with a magic cape or have a limited range of motion when climbing in and out of the car.ian_house wrote:Agreed. Yeah, suprisingly so. I wouldn't think Caine as Alfred myself but he plays it well.IMJ wrote:Absolutely! And Caine as Alfred was incredibly well played. They alluded to it getting lighter in the Dark Knight, but I think it needs a little more work. Maybe the armour was partially out of fear and protection as the first film was an origin.
