Non-Sports Cards Collectors

Post by Knightt »

Are there any other Non-Sports Trading Cards Collectors out there ? If so, what do you collect ? Maybe we can get some trading done so that we can help each other finish off our collections.

I have 77 different sized binders (from 1" to 3") chock full of all my non-sport trading cards.

I collect everything non-sports related:

Marvel Masterpieces (all series, yes 1995 and 1996 editions)
Marvel Universe (all series)
X-Men (just about every set)
Spider-Man (missing a couple sets)
Batman (everything I can get my hands on Masterpieces, Archieves, holoset)
Superman (need Death of Superman set, have holoset)
Star Wars (all vintage sets (missing quite a few stickers and the C-3PO boner card), all the newer sets, chromium, throwback set, 30 years set etc)
Comics Greatest World
Tribe
Lord of the Rings (FOTR, TTT, ROTK, Flipz, holofoil card game cards, chromium, masterpieces, MANY of the clothing swatch cards, a couple autographs)
Iron Man 1 & 2 (near complete on 1, very good start on 2, plus a custom made sketch card)
Ultraverse (all sets, 98% complete on this, missing promos)
Star Trek (so many different ones I don't just what I have... don't really need them either as I am not a Trekkie)
Tribe
Conan (Chromium all sets, Marvel covers etc)
Valiant Era I and II
Continuity
Defiant
Batman The new movies
Wizard cards, from magazine and Gold plastic cased
John Byrne's Next Men
Marvel Motion (working on a set, very incomplete)
Cyberforce
WildCATs (all sets)
Image
Shadowhawk
Youngblood
Savage Dragon
Women of Marvel
Avengers Archives

And that is just to name a few... I have TONS (15,000+) common cards and more chase cards than I can shake a stick at... so I am all up for trading or what not and am wondering who else out there is a collector.

Here is an example of some of my collection:

A few more binders...

I would like to know what everyone else collects, maybe see some cool azz pics and maybe learn why people collect the cards that they do ? No sports cards need apply, please... just non-sports cards.

I will update later... but geez, it seems like a lot of cards and to think, it all started with Valiant Era I cards.

I love coming back to my NSC collection from time to time...
It's just been on the back burner while I "collect" stuff for my house. :thumb:

That being said, I've had a sweet spot for some of the more premium autographs of various sets. I picked up the coveted Jessica Alba auto from the Dark Angel set not too long ago, along with a Patrick Stewart and the original RD JR. from the first Iron Man.

Not in the general sense, but I’m working on collecting all of the ‘80s Garbage Pail sets (I have series 1-6) and the ‘60s Batman sets (I have 2 out of 5). I have a few sets from when I first started collecting mostly for nostalgic reasons including Valiant Era 1, Marvel Universe 1, and ’89 Batman Series 1.

Thinking more on the subject, I could see me collecting some of the ‘80s movie sets—Topps Star Wars for sure.

Also, I forgot to mention that I have a late ‘50s Zorro set that I had gotten from my father. It’s not something I would have collected but is a fun set to have nonetheless.

How do you guys store your collections? I know many collectors like binders, but I’ve found that if not careful the binders can bend the cards.

I use penny sleeves to protect each card and my collections are stored in individual trading card boxes that are labeled. For example, I use one medium sized box for the ‘60s Batman cards and a longer sized box for the Garbage Pail Kids sets.

Basically my trading cards are stored much like my comics. Is this a common way to store trading cards?

I use only Ultra-Pro 9 card sleeves stored in the best binders that I can afford (which I could always upgrade. But I am VERY meticulous as to how the sleeves 'fit' inside the binder when stored so as to prevent any bending of cards or even the pages themselves.

I prefer to take a binder down and be able to look at it from front to back in order. And I always have more pages than needed so if a 9 card chase set is there, it gets its own page but if there is a six card sub-set it will get it's own page as well unless I decide to place promo cards on that page (as long as there are no more than 3 for a six card subset)

Sweet Zorro stuff, man. Now there's a series that deserves a PROPER dvd collection. Too bad most of the people involved are long gone.

I collected/played Magic the Gathering through various times. I recently went through my sets and sold some complete sets after the Ice Age-Alliance block.

I also collected some comics-related cards back in the days. As I was sorting them, I got an urge to complete the sets. I hope the sickness doesn't spread since space is an issue.

Probably best if people PM me if they're interested in trading.

It is not like we have to pay per page on this forum. Before you brought this topic back to life (which might be a sin elsewhere but it is fine here) there were three posts in January and then it goes back to October before.

Post a 15 page want list. I want to see it. :thumb:

I'm constantly updating my list. I've got lots of cards to trade.

One time I actually traded a huge stack of common cards for some Ninjak issues I needed. :)

Oh man, some of that stuff where you have instances of missing nearly half the set? I wouldn't even bother compiling that stuff... just buy the set and then use what was going to be your set in trades or sales.

In a lot of cases it's mostly chase cards I'm looking for. If I get an oddball card, I'll either trade it away or get the rest of the set. Considering the amount of extras I have (about 40 long boxes of cards), I figure that it never hurts to have them on the list.

A lot of the chase cards also are "in case of finding bargain". There's no way I'll get all of the Harry Potter costume cards since there's always 1/set that's rarer than the rest.

I am sure that I can help you out on quite a few sets of either common cards, chase cards or both. This will of course take time. I think I can help out on LOTR, Marvel Masterpieces, Star Trek, Ultraverse, Conan and many others.
