This slabbed comic does have some kitsch value but that value does not approach the shipping costs.

Thanks Chiclo. I really want a slabbed copy of this comic, butChiclo wrote:I see where you are coming from and agree on all points.tmcneil82 wrote:http://cgi.ebay.com/X-FORCE-1-CGC-9-2-P ... 500wt_1154

1. I don't care about grade, there were like 1.5 million printed and chances are i have 4-5 that are 9.8 or higher
2. It is not worth slabbing cost to get this thing graded myself
3. 2.99 for any cgc graded comic? You guys telling me you wouldn't pay that?

This is where most of the people are going to disagree with you.tmcneil82 wrote:3. 2.99 for any cgc graded comic? You guys telling me you wouldn't pay that?
Is the slab itself (and not the comic inside it) worth something? Does that plastic casing that cannot be transferred to another book have some value? I know what Z would say - "no". He argued long and hard that slabbed comics are not worth more than the comic itself.
Let me ask - would you pay $2.99 for a slabbed Spawn #1 in CGC 6.5? That comic exists.

The slab confers some amount of "confidence" that the grade is at least very close to the number on the slab.
For most comics, that amount of confidence translates into a dollar amount that usually is more than the cost of the slabbing...
For example, a CGC 9.8 Harbinger #1 is just a 9.8 raw Harbinger #1 in a CGC 9.8 plastic slab...
but the confidence in CGC makes the whole CGC item worth at least $100 more than a 9.8 raw Harbinger #1 without it.
The question here is... what confidence value would you place on a CGC plastic slab stating 9.2 on X-Force #2?
Is there any doubt that the book is really 9.2? Would there be any doubt that the book was 9.2 without CGC?
If there is no doubt in the grade, the plastic slab only has value as a protective casing.
That protective case might be worth a couple of dollars at the most. The raw 9.2 X-Force #2 is practically worthless.
The total of a "couple of dollars" and "practically worthless" is about $2.99.
Therefore, the $10 for shipping is $10 too much for the item.
The book and slab are worth about $2.99... shipped.

X-Force #1 is not "practically worthless", it is "completely worthless".
Therefore, the book and the slab are worth about $2.00... shipped.

Well I'm willing to overpay by .99. Its just the $10 shipping is way to high.
So if anyone has a copy of x-force 1 cgc'ed at 9.0 or higher that they want to sell me for 2.99 shipped, let me know.
I got into comics around the time that Cable / Deadpool first got huge. I remember how awesome this book was when it came out, so thats probably why I even want it in the first place.

I definitely understand the desire to have multiple copies of books that mean a lot... I've got stacks of some books that probably aren't worth $2, but I like having them.tmcneil82 wrote:greg wrote:iggy101us wrote:But we're talking about X-Force #1 (still in bag).greg wrote:That protective case might be worth a couple of dollars at the most. That being said... you're completely right about the $10 for shipping... If you don't want to pay a total of $12.99 to own a $2 item, then don't.
Philosophically, though... if the happiness you would get from a CGC 9.2 X-Force #1 is at least as much happiness as you would get from a couple of fast food meals that also cost about $12.99, then pay $12.99 and enjoy the book.
It will last longer than food of the same price, and you'll always have something to show for it.

Those would be good points if we weren't already valuing the book at $0.00.sanman wrote:Nobody’s mentioned that it has been removed from the polybag and the trading card is gone.
This doesn’t matter?
I’ve assumed that loose comics that were once polybagged are like loose action figures—nice but not nearly as desirable.

Ah thanks for posting this. It seems that folks were either smoking up a tree or dead drunk when placing their pre-orders for X-Men #1.iggy101us wrote:http://www.valiantfans.com/forum/postin ... e&p=666829Escaflown4 wrote:Does anyone remember what the print run was? If it makes you feel better, I've seen all 4 covers multiple times over in quarter bins this year. The numbers had to have been almost even across the board. So about 1.87 million per cover.sanman wrote:I’m sure the four different covers and the gatefold on X-Men #1 played a large part in the high numbers. Anyone the distribution across the five versions?
X-men #1 is like the ET video game for the 2600 - more copies than there are readers.

How could that have possibly gotten in the stack? Not that it doesn't belong there... only that it's so obscure!
(For 99.9% of the people on this board, we're talking about Wild Stars #1 from Little Rocket Productions, not the one from Image.)
