Comic Card Market?
Can someone give me an overview? Is there anything worth anything any more? I stopped buying cards when those marvel masterworks(?) came out that were in little boxes of like 8 cards each for 5 bucks. Are there any series' worth anything? What about wizard cards/gold cards? I have a messload of those

It's all dead!
Actually I think Dino and X-O are mini masters of the card market. I know I've heard some buzz over certain comic cards but I don't recall since I'm neither a art nor card guy.
Although the flair masterpiece cards were pretty cool. To bad they were so damn expensive.

I think the only market for those cards is the few of us, me included, who are trying to fill in holes in our older sets. I have boxes of those cards and am trying to fill in the missing cards, that are sadly, mostly the insert cards. Those cards still are quite expensive on ebay. There is a magazine: "Non-Sport Update" that is the price guide for non-sport cards that many businesses use to price their cards, and I personally think that the prices are too high on most inserts. I know I don't want to pay that kind of $$ for 10+ year old cards that don't mean squat to 99.9% of collectors, but that's just me.
Hmmmmm....I still have quite a few holes I'm trying to fill

The Simpsons certified autograph cards are hot. Also, X-Men movie certified autographs especially Wolverine. I can't find one at a good price. Another that goes for high prices are WWE Wrestling certified autograph cards especially those of Candice Michelle and Torrie Wilson. Kiss cards of the WWE divas are not cheap as well.

Back when those cards came out I took my son into a LCS with me on a Saturday afternoon. He was big into sport cards and they did not have any at this shop. I bought him a pack of Marvel cards and when we got out to the car he opened them and said.. is this a good one? It was the Spiderman vs Venom Hologram card.riftt wrote:what about the old marvel chase cards that used to go for so much like the spiderman vs venom holo thingie from marvel 3 or 4 or the holodisc things?

I spent major dollars back in the day chasing various comic card sets. If I remember correctly, I opened 5 or 6 boxes of the second Upper Deck Valiant set trying to get all the chase cards (I never did find one of them and was convinced for a while that they screwed up...PA 14, I think).
The set that I went nuts over was the Fleer X-Men Ultra '94 set and the various chase sets. I remember paying $30+ for a few of the silver x-over cards.
The set I'm most proud of is my oversized Sandman set. I have 3-4 sets of the basic run as well as at 2 complete gold bordered chase sets. I also have another gold bordered set with each card signed by the respective artist (they weren't issued signed). I also have 6 of 7 ultra-rare silver bordered chase cards (they came 1/case). If anyone comes across one of the silver bordered Delirium cards, I'd be willing to drop a good amount of change on it.

Marvel Masterpieces - the first one - was awesome!! I still have an unopened box, although they'll probably never be worth anything.Redtrax wrote:My personal favourite was the first Marvel Masterpieces series.
Not some, but all the cards looked great.
Btw, did Marvel ever de a comic reprint of those cards like they did with several other card series later on?
Yes, they did a comic on the cards. Gotta love Jusko's work.

Marvel Masterpieces were the shizzle for nizzle for sure!! But man, they were so damn expensive. I remember in 1994 I'd buy a pack of 1994 flair baseball cards and a pack of flair marvel masterpieces and then I was broke

The third Marvel Universe series with all the Mark Bagley drawings was also great
