Dat be cause I DON"TS BE CHECKIN for the girlie trophies !!!IMJ wrote:That's good, because I don't give a rat's *SQUEE* about Xbox Achievements! And how could you not know what you need? I don't eve know what I have or need.

I'd rather spend 17 hours looking for the 10 red boxes in the game for a lousy 10 achievement points.

I play BOTH systems, and am just lucky to even FINISH a game.

I gotta be honest I never set out to get achievements... just play the game.
Sometimes going after achievements does take away from the game experience. Batman Arkum Asylum for instance, I have totally gotten away from any of the Riddlers trophies, the Arkhum mystery symbols and am now just playing the game to enjoy the story. I guess if I need to I can 'go back' and try to get them but the story is SO good that I just want to enjoy it.

I typically just start the game and once I get the hang of things, then I take a look at the achievements or trophies. Some of them make it worth playing for a couple more hours, especially with sports games.Knightt wrote:Sometimes going after achievements does take away from the game experience. Yup, that's about how I do it too. I don't buy the game for the trophies, but the trophies help me get a little more life out of a game. They've also helped me not spend money on impulse game buys. I stick with a game now until I'm so done with it that I more or less need a new one to play.depluto wrote:I typically just start the game and once I get the hang of things, then I take a look at the achievements or trophies. Well I have never bought a game because of the achievements or trophies (but I have rented a couple so that I could work on my score over a weekend or something). I am refining the list of games that I buy and play. I have needed to do this for a long while as I have been burned on too many bad games. I remember waiting in HIGH anticipation for "Too Human" and the hype was incredible. I then played it for a while and though 'THIS is a great game ? I must not 'get it' because I am NOT having a good time here.' I think twice I have bought a game only to 'trade it in' two weeks later, massive waste of time, money and effort.IMJ wrote:Yup, that's about how I do it too. But no longer, I take great care to gauge a game and now have the patience to wait for a review of the game from one of the magazines I subscribe to or wait on a thumbs up from a couple of fellow gamers.
I do not feel that there are enough 'demos' out as their could/should be. I've played the God of War III and Dante's Inferno demos and BOOM, I am buying them, tried the demo, loved it, pre-ordered, easy. But here I am looking at Borderlands and having no idea on whether I want to pick it up or not because I have not been able to play it (or rent it). I could have purchased Avatar when it came out but I rented it, played it for 5 days and now I know that I can wait for this game to go down in price at Game Stop. So, I now feel that I am buying the games I know that I will like instead of falling for the hype. Lets take Fallout 3. I know that I will not complete this game and it is very close to falling off my radar as is Dragon Age: Origins... but the reasoning is different, with Fallout 3, there is too much talking and many of the battles, I barely make it through the firefight but the gameplay is not appealing to me. In a way, it is the same with Dragon Age: Origins, a bit of talking but I find the graphics are terrible. But I must not have a nose for games as I have been playing Dark Sector for three days now and having a great time (basically the game is a first person shooter with a cool glaive to throw around, other than that the game is very grey and lack luster, but... I am having a good time... and this shows how shallow I can be with games but I also redeem myself when I play Batman: Arkham Asylum or another game of high caliber. My opinion is often on shakey grounds as I sometimes really play a game that does not receive good reviews and yet I do not see the worth of games such as Fallout 3.
Out of it all I do find myself spending less money on games that are history in two weeks. And again, I have never bought a game due to the achievements or trophies. I find out what is available after I have bought the game.

Yeah the Riddler trophies and clues slowed the game down too much. It played like a movie and slowing it down kinda ruined that feel. Just blast through it and enjoy the ride.Knightt wrote:Sometimes going after achievements does take away from the game experience. I think that is sound advice !!ian_house wrote:Yeah the Riddler trophies and clues slowed the game down too much. It played like a movie and slowing it down kinda ruined that feel. I loved 'em! I actually haven't gotten the Plat on Batman yet, but I borrowed the game and beat it in a weekend.... The Riddler trophy was one that I nabbed - it was the various combat trophies that gave me a hard time.Knightt wrote:I think that is sound advice !!ian_house wrote:Yeah the Riddler trophies and clues slowed the game down too much. If I had more time with the game I'd have dug in to those combat challenges...

Just started playing The Conduit. Nintendo definitely needs to start targeting more games like this for the Wii. Very decent FPS with the typical (but interesting background premise). I'm surprised by the lack of cut scenes though. Most games like this have a bunch and this game doesn't have any (at least so far).

Finished The Conduit a couple of days ago. I wouldn't rank it as low as what some reviewers are doing, but the game could have better and more involved.
I didn't like the fact that you could not interact with the environment or destroy anything other than the enemies. The story was decent enough, but the lack of any cinema sequences is disappointing. The AI and control scheme was top notch. I also thought they did a good job with the graphics. It's not up to PS3 or 360 standards, but good enough for me. The game is relatively short and this is probably it's biggest downfall in the single player mode.
I wouldn't recommend spending 50 bucks for it, but if you can pick it up for 20 to 30 bucks, then go for it.

The Wii definitely needs more games like this, that's for sure.
I forgot to mention that it has online capability, although I don't really use it, I've heard a lot of good reviews for that option.

Downloaded Streets of Rage 2 off the Wii virtual console. It's A LOT like Final Fight but it's still a great game in its own right. Also downloaded Gunstar Heroes one of the best and most creative run and guns ever. Both have been a blast.
I also rented Kamen Rider Dragon Knight for Wii off Gamefly. It's a very stripped down, simplified fighter (there are no cut scenes from the show, etc) but it's easy to pick up, it's worth a lot of game play and is a lot of fun. They perfectly capture the Kamen Rider battles from the show and give you lots of satisfying ways to inflict pains on your opponent (a variety of weapons, advent beast attacks, over the top finishing moves, etc) and it has 15 characters to choose from. Definitely worth a nice long rent (I got over 16 hours out of it, unlocking everything but one card).
