Poison Elves Question

Post by 400yrs »

A while back, I picked up a pretty solid run of the Sirius books starting in the teens.

I plan to start reading through them, but I just picked up #7 and flipped it. I noticed that there are several of text pieces in the middle of this issue. Is that usual in this series?

I don't want to rush to judgment, but I've got to get my mind in the right place before reading if there are alot of text pieces throughout the series (I'd rather not have them ever within the story of any comic including the Watchmen pirate story).

Also, flipping it, some of the names are giving me a fantasy vibe like WoW or something which I don't dig. I might need more prep time before trying this series out.

Quite a few issues had a lot of txt ( his Dave Sim phase).
Also as he was quite unhappy with a few Mulehide issues, so he re wrote them in txt too.

Yeah, I was going to say, if you don't like text pieces in your comics, stay far away from Cerebus.

Poison Elves is a great experience, though! Don't let the text pieces throw you off. Although ... I don't think it ever ends as the creator died before it was completed.

Poison Elves is awesome. I have the first six trades, covering the Mulehide years and the beginning of the Sirius run, but yes I find that I have to be in the mindset for the text pieces. After a while, they actually don't seem that long.

I cannot recommend this book highly enough.

Poison Elves literally helped me through the darkest point of my life.

I have a letter published in the "Death Threats" column in one of the earlier issues thanking Drew for taking my mind off the *SQUEE* I was facing.

I tried it, but couldn't get into it. I read through one issue with alot of text. It was ok, but the next issue I picked up was kind of make or break. On the first or second page it said something about horde war or orc war or something really gamey. Had to stop it.

Guess i should've realized this was a heavy fantasy series by the title. Fantasy / roleplaying stuff is right up there with manga for stuff that i just can't get into.

I've got a good run up in my sales thread if anyone else wants to try it.
