I agree, great cover.xodacia81 wrote:Back when I had a hoard, it was Solar # 5. That cover is just stunning work.Elveen wrote:I agree it is much cheaper to hoard more common books. I hoarded SM #8 (still have a grip load) EW #6 and #7 (love the story, love the cover).
My favorite hoard book was X-O #5. I use to have 35 of 36. But I am down to a hand full.
Jonesy, if you find a hard corps #1 in a cheap bin scoop it up, and before you know it...... hoard.

Y'know, I originally wondered why folks would have "hoard books," but i've been finding myself going back to my H.A.R.D.Corps #1 and looking at it, and I recently bought a #1 Gold from Elveen. I'm thinking I might start hoarding H.A.R.D.Corps #1, cuz I dig Jim Lee, I like the cover, the issue is neat...
You have been assimilated....

Back in my Valiant hoarding days, I had 50+ copies of X-O Manowar #1, 20+ Rai #1 & Solar #1 and maybe 20+ of Solar 10 first prints. Now I am just down to a handful of each with the exception of X-O Manowar #1s which is slowly creeping back up to my original hoard.xodacia81 wrote:Back when I had a hoard, it was Solar # 5. So, do most of y'all hoard simply for the love of the individual issue? I know Chiclo had said that he hoards for that reason. And it seems to be the case with a bunch of you guys.Escaflown4 wrote:Back in my Valiant hoarding days, I had 50+ copies of X-O Manowar #1, 20+ Rai #1 & Solar #1 and maybe 20+ of Solar 10 first prints. Another book that I would probably hoard is Sandman #50, or maybe Spawn #1.
But with my current financial set-backs/responsibilities, etc...I have to focus on getting the initial reading list complete, just 'cuz i'm loving these books so darn much!
You guys are the best...seriously. This has been the best comic book year for me since my childhood...for sheer enjoyment and true excitement...and the love of being a cool nerd!

When I could, I hoarded for two reasons: # 1, love of the issue, usually because it was a great story or the cover was just AMAZING. # 2...because it was rare and I wanted to have trade fodder. I stopped getting multiples for THAT reason once I was done with my reading set collection. But, now, I collect for the first reason and an overall love of the old Valiant.JonesyAZ wrote:So, do most of y'all hoard simply for the love of the individual issue? Well back then I hoarded many books due to the fact that most of them were "unattainable" for me during the Valiant boom years. Now since I could get them and find them at an affordable price, I just couldn't help to pick them up whenever I see them. Also the reason I got a huge pile of X-O Manowar #1s was I came across a dealer with 30 uncirculated warehouse copies. Still I think it all comes down to pure nostalgia at the end.JonesyAZ wrote:So, do most of y'all hoard simply for the love of the individual issue? Y'know? I'll have to figure that out? The initial box that I bought that started this whole quest was $40, w/ no Unity or Pre-Unity books, and no end-of-run goodness. Also, the smaller titles like Geomancer were not in the box.Mike J wrote:Out of curiousity how much did it set you back?JonesyAZ wrote:Wow, i'm getting close to finishing my set (w/ the exception of Turok) WOO HOO!!!

Sighs speaking of the bug, I remember when I decided to get back into comics back in '05, I said to myself that I will stop once I get all the pre-Unity books. After I have obtained that, I went for the rest of the Valiant titles. After that, the bug bit me hard and I decided to go for a full run of Uncanny X-Men since that had been my favorite title since I first collected comics in the early 90's. Once I completed that quest, I moved on to collecting major Bronze Age key issues. I figure I would just settle down with what I have, but the bug bit hard yet again and I took on the quest to get a full run of Amazing Spider-Man which I am only about 50 issues away from completing. Now I find myself also going after major Silver Age key issues. I really need to get rid of this bug.comicsyte95 wrote:Wait til you get the bug i spend 2-3 times that per month with no end in sight..JonesyAZ wrote:Well, once I have paid the last few amounts that I owe to people, I will have spent about $315 for all the books i've gotten thus farI guess that's not too bad, eh?

Believe me, I understand, still tring to complete my Fantastic Four, just picked up 3 and 5, had to lie to my wife about how much they cost.Escaflown4 wrote:Sighs speaking of the bug, I remember when I decided to get back into comics back in '05, I said to myself that I will stop once I get all the pre-Unity books.
