You may well have hit the nail right on the head there dude.iggy101us wrote:I would also add that the majority of the active CGC Pre-Unity set builders have gotten their copies.Daniel Jackson wrote:I would say both.Draco wrote: So is it the economic downturn or the amount of copies available that made this so, or a bit of both?
very good point indeed.

Another one up for sale today but starting bid is only $0.99.
Harby #1 from rasmus2 serial #0986240001
The weird thing is that rasmus2 sold a copy with this serial # to desirableitems back on 6/22/09 and desirableitems has been unable to sell it. I have sent a message via eBay to rasmus2 to confirm the serial #.

Possible. The serial # is the same as the serial # of this current auction from desirableitems: http://cgi.ebay.com/HARBINGER-1-CGC-9-8 ... 0488457109slym2none wrote:iggy101us wrote:Another one up for sale today but starting bid is only $0.99.

If it was a shill account I don't think they would have different shipping policies. One possible theory is that he reuses his own old auction picture. Even that actually is a bit out of character compared to the customer service I remember from rasmus2. Then again, if noone else bids I'll be happy

He didn't fix the photo but he emailed me the serial numbers. They are 1004467002 and 1004467003. He currently has 2 for sale - one on eBay and the other he will put on Pedigree Comics.iggy101us wrote:Got a message back from rasmus2. He said he re-used the photo and will fix the photo. He said he got this new one from NY last week.

I would say a realistic value of the book would be below the 400's, which I feel is a more stable quote. Nobody threw a bid even with a $450 starting price.Daniel Jackson wrote:Yep, quite a drop, eh?Chuck wrote:After looking through the thread, looks like the new 9.8s have brought down the prices to below the 500s.

Someone quite rightly pointed out in here somewhere that most CGC collectors of Valiant books have got their copies.
This will probably mean newly slabbed copies will find homes with folks who are not CGC registry nuts and who previously never expected to own one due to previous excessive costs.
With prices at $500- folks who had never dropped more than say $100 on a book may well go that extra mile now and keep watching for that once in a lifetime bargain, thats now more like once in a quarter bargain and dropping.
I will seriously consider buying a copy when they are $200.

400yrs wrote:$450 unsold. Wow. I might consider getting one if they go a bit lower. I didn't think they drop that far that quickly. That's really fast.
I felt like this book would end up a $500-600 book in a decent economy (at its low end), but I guess I thought high.
Like most unsusal sales that garner much hype and high prices, when they fall, they fall real low.
If its hit $400ish this fast ( although crap economy hasnt helped) then it will go lower so keep watching, you might save another $100 on that $450 sooner than you though dude.

Speaking as a prospective buyer who hasn't gotten a copy yet, as much as I want one 500-600 is more than I can afford.
Ultimately I'd love a 9.8 SS version. I have a blue label 9.6 that I'm waiting to get signed and there is always a change that the resub will come back 9.8
Ultimately I think the 9.8s will settle and maintain a price of 300-400

I think like emost things in the collectibles world, the more copies that are on sale vs the amount of people wanting to buy will keep the prices falling.drakeprimeone wrote:Speaking as a prospective buyer who hasn't gotten a copy yet, as much as I want one 500-600 is more than I can afford.

I think unless something incredible happens and we all win the lottery you will get your wish and probably lower in the next 12 months.

I suppose if more and more keep showing up for sale that might be the case, but I would be surprised to see them selling for that anytime soon.Chuck wrote:IMO Harby #1 CGC'd 9.8 will settle at around 200 bucks if the trend of new 9.8s keep popping up.
I hope you're right though, I might even break down and buy one for that....

Hmmm thanks for the tip DJ, I just picked up a 9.6 for $60.00. Now to me that was an okay deal. I just can't pay that much extra money for a 9.8. Now if and when it gets below say $150 or so it's worth it. I don't think I'd shell it out for 250-500. Not when I can pick up a great Golden age book for that. I recently purchased a Sheena #5 in a 9.2.......totally equaling the "mile high" copy for a cool $595.00.... You see, now that's worth it.Daniel Jackson wrote:I suppose if more and more keep showing up for sale that might be the case, but I would be surprised to see them selling for that anytime soon.Chuck wrote:IMO Harby #1 CGC'd 9.8 will settle at around 200 bucks if the trend of new 9.8s keep popping up.
