Great to see your excitment. Please go on sharing. Maybe you can revive the rereading threads?

The Malev wars did have some good points. We got to see more of the world and they referred to stuff from other story-lines and even other books. My complaint is that it tore down the old Manning-inspired world and killed of several old characters. As you say it's a long story and you have to read Rai also to get the whole picture. There are some good stand-alone issues in there, such as Magnus 32 and 33.

I see what you mean about the old "Russ Manning" world being torn apart. I am pretty sure that after this huge story arc is finished that the rest of the Magnus run will probably be "meh" especially after reading about what people have thought regarding Giffen's stories. But I bet for those who "were there" when these books were being released month after month...it must have been the comic book equivalent to Sci-Fi's "Battlestar Galactica" series; you just can't wait for the next installment!!!!

The end of the Malev War was a bit of a disappointment, but nothing compared to the mess that comes later on.

Okay, so I just read the issue where Tekla gave her life for the "Future Force" to continue on in their journey. I can't think of the last time where I genuinely felt for a character in a situation like that. Tekla's journey from her humble robotic beginnings in the Steel Nation saga has been, for me, one of the best sub-plots of the Valiant Magnus mythos. From day one, i've really connected with that character, and a part of me kind of hoped that Magnus and her would have hooked up. Granted, I can understand the wierdness of a robot and human together...but hey, Scud and Sussudio made it work!

Dude, that's awesome. The quote...AND the fact that you're from Nebraska! I was born in Omaha and lived there until I was 8. Then the fam moved to Phoenix, Arizona. I still miss the ol' N.E. at times though...

So I just finished "The Malev War" last night. Epic. Fun. Tear-jerking (yes, I shed a tear for Mr. Rai...lol...hell, even Tekla!).

As i'm sure I mentioned earlier in this thread, I haven't had this much fun reading a comic book story in YEARS. I will post more thoughts later, but what a BLAST!!!!

# 46 concludes the last "fun" story in Magnus history. # 55 is the last sane issue. The story from 47-54 is pretty crazy, but nothing is like what you get once Giffen hits the book in # 55. It's like you're drinking crystal clear water and all of a sudden in the middle of a gulp, you realize you're sucking down sewage. It's sudden and sickening and there is no way out of it.

I gotta tell ya...i'm quite intrigued to read those Giffen issues, just to see how insane they are...lol. I wonder if it's like the "All-Star Batman & Robin" series by Frank Miller. It couldn't get any worse, yet it was still entertaining because it was THAT bad. I actually love that series in hindsight...

Good description. It sure is 180° from what Shooter envisioned for the characters.
