Word of advice to some of the newer members here, Half of what you hear is a lie and the other half is BS.
Sounds a lot like advice for life in general.

The way I look at it is that I already wasn't getting any new VALIANT books, so what's the big deal in continuing to not get any new VALIANT books?

Prior to the sale of the IP's there was no hope...none...that VALIANT would ever see publication again.

Now at least we're getting new material...albeit only 8 or 10 pages at a time tacked onto a Hardcover.

So from where I sit things are definitely better than they were even three years ago.

And that makes me happy.

I still have trouble sorting out which 50 percent is which.
When it comes to jedimarley, the "marley" part is a lie, that's not his name, it's his daughter.
The "jedi" part is BS.

Nobody is asking VEI to divulge private concerns. Nobody is asking for sordid details. However, I think a simple "we're still here" would go a long way. And yet, if that alone constitutes giving away too much, then how paranoid have we become?
All the people who are complaining and "jumping ship" so to say will the first ones looking for the limited edition "ValiantFans.com" issues when they do actually publish.

Of course I will be right there in line with them

Also, probably the best sign they are "still there" is that they still have employees on staff, Walter is still there, and they have had a couple of marketing people I believe. . If they weren't for real they wouldn't bother with payroll concerns and employees at all, much less be looking for interns.

sorry, what I meant was with regards to Walter (as his name was brought up specifically) can Walter be considered an employee if he is financially invested in VEI? I will add I also don't know spit (though I doubt that really needs be said) but I always assumed most of the people involved in VEI are financially invested in the project....can't really call those people employees at this stage of the game.

further to the way the rest of the thread has gone, I don't trust "inside information". The only information worth a damn is when it is published information. Until then its nothing more than propaganda.

In closing, I am not really Zaphod.

Is Walter one of the shareholders in VEI? He may be, I am not aware of that though. I guess you'd be right if he is.

Inside information is only as good as your source and how much you trust it. I don't think anyone really has said anything on the board that is to be considered "new" info, as Greg has stated earlier.

Hopefully sometime this year, VEI will announce their plans for the future. Lord knows I am not getting any younger and would like to read or see stories about these characters while the reading glasses still work for me.

I can only be positive about the future, because negativity doesn't do anyone any good as far as this issue is concerned. We (the board) are a pretty good fan base to start, but reality is for VEI to succeed it isn't really about us, we're gonna give them a shot anyway, that's a given. It's about getting work out that the mainstream fans will like and wanna read/watch. That is gonna take a lot of deep thought and planning, and that's what I think they are doing now.

Arguably though, there comes a time to act rather than carry on 'thinking and planning'. But then if the thinking and planning is aimed in one direction pretty primarily (say for example in trying to secure deals to license your properties out), then waiting on third parties to respond will take ever longer if they are potentially weighing up their own risks.

If it were just about publishing comic books I think we would be seeing the first phases of that already. Since I don't count the value-added material in the new HC's as regular comic book publication, I don't think we are.

I may not be drinking the kool aid, and may be perceived as negative, but I think that in this debate those who have voiced their concerns about VEI's capability or indeed choice to publish ongoing comic books, have expressed those concerns in logical and well-thought out manner on the whole.

I want to give VEI the benfit of the doubt, and they seemed the best option buyer and custodian for the properties, I just maintain that I don't think this was ever primarily about comic books for them and perhaps was more about monetising the assets. Nothing wrong in that either, but the expectations of VF board members was always going to be primarily focused on comic books since that is the starting point for this board in essence, which may not be the focus of VEI.

This is just speculation, but I can't help but think that the lack of the GK3 is a huge hangup. It wouldn't surprise me if VEI either had to totally reverse course in terms of what they had planned, or that they are talking about "something"-say, whatever-with Dark Horse, since DH now hold the rights to the GK characters. Either way, I want to see new books. I just am not holding my breath until they come, as it might be a while.

Going into the auction the GK3 were never part of the deal so I don't see how much that could be holding them up. I don't remember when Dark Horse licenced the characters but its been a while.

I guess all we can do is hope.

My guess would be that at the time, they maybe thought it would be easy to once again get ahold of those properties. A slight case of counting chickens before the eggs hatched, maybe? I think the belief for a while was that DH had only the re-print rights. I know the speculation has been that they only recently got the rights to print new material, but I'm not sold on that. I think the deal they had might have included new material, perhaps dependant on the sales of the HC reprints.

Well as consumers, im sure we can all vouch that it would be a smart investment for both groups to collaborate on this. Or Valiant can move on without them and we still have Phil. :thumb:

I was trying to look up some stuff at VEI's wiki but it's down. I haven't checked the official VEI site in a long time. Has it been down for a while now? Maybe there's a new url?

EDIT: Never mind. Found it at
