CGC Signature Series Value Differences

Post by MoonChild »

Is there a rule of thumb for this? Like I just came into 3 CGC Signature Series Books for pretty cheap but I dont have anything to compare them to for personally apraising them because they are pretty much 1 of a kind. Any help on this appreciated.

I'd need a bit more info like what comic and who signed it. Is it a key book or a run of the mill toilet paper example.

That will determin its desirability and value.

Much like non-SS books, moderns need to be in or above 9.8 to garner any "respectable" prices. Even then, I have seen SS 9.8 moderns in the $40-80 range...

I hate to keep mentioning another forum, but check out the CGC boards. There is a LOT off SS action going on over there, in both their FS threads and in the Signatures thread.

If we mention non valiant books, whenever Gaiman signs a key Sandman book or Ennis signs a key preacher book they command a decent amount more.

It's all situational - who signed it and even where it was signed. There is a certain Hulk 181 that Stan Lee signed on the cover, and IMO, it really detracts from the book. I'll try and find a pic...

Its a tough one, I'd say if they were 9.8's then they might command more than the un-signed 9.8.

But being only 9.6's they are only going to appeal to a Bob Layton fan rather that a fan/investor. Nice slabs all the same.

I place very idiosyncratic values on CGC SS books. These are a few factors I consider:

(1) Is the book significant to the comics world?
(2) Is it significant to me personally?
(3) Who signed it (someone important to comics or someone I like alot)?
(4) How does it look on the cover?
(5) How does the signature look/Can you tell who signed it?

Cool Beans. I got em for dirt cheap so its all worth it to me but It will be interesting seeing how much they will end up being worth to everyone else.

Point number four is crucial, I've seen some really ill placed sigs that have ruined a high quality comic, like right over the tittle or in a busy area so you cant make it out.
