Unfortunately, I can't. There's a super big spoiler at the end of the first issue that drives the whole story of the book and if I tried to describe the series it would give away that ending.Elveen wrote:Lightning Strike wrote:IMO, it's the best work he's ever done. From the the very last page of the first issue to the end of the run (#75?), Thunderbolts was as good as any book being published. Can you give me a quick summary with out giving to much away?
I can tell you it's a team book like the Avengers, but not much else. Again, I really don't want to ruin the surprise for you or anyone else who decides to read this series.

But if you like team books, like great character driven books and if you like Buseik's writing, you'll love this book. Guaranteed.

Anyone reading any X books that they really like?
I'm considering abandoning Uncanny. Even though it's Brubaker, I don't really dig it. I gave up on Astonishing about 3 years ago due to shipping delays and the story kind of meandering.
I want something to fill my mutant itch, but I don't know what's good. Any recommendations?

X-Factor---it's still brilliantly written, and now that Stroman is no longer the artist, this book is starting to gel again.400yrs wrote:Anyone reading any X books that they really like?

Wonderful description ... and unfortunately, he's right, you can't be told the premise without it ruining the initial shock. There's a trade out there of the first few issues. Or, naturally, you can always pick up the singles :-pLightning Strike wrote:Unfortunately, I can't. Again, I highly recommend it if you're into super heroes ... and especially Marvel continuity!

FINALLY!Elveen wrote:I just read Ronin #1. VERY intriguing.
Looking forward to the rest.
i'm reading identity crisis right now (pretty much to see if i agree with that yahoo who wrote that book i kept referring to).
i think it is quite an engaging read, and the fact that you don't know sue dibney as well as you know lois lane does not seem to lessen the impact.
one of the strongest emotional reactions i've had to a comic book.

I really liked that story, and I am one of those "if it isn't top-tier A+++ DC characters, I don't know jack about it" types. I would easily call this a really good read.dave wrote:i'm reading identity crisis right now (pretty much to see if i agree with that yahoo who wrote that book i kept referring to).

I liked this as well. It was an introduction to a few of the characters for me. Someday a re-read for sure.dave wrote:FINALLY!Elveen wrote:I just read Ronin #1. VERY intriguing.

I'm in your position. I've started it. Somehow, I've never read it before. I'm through the first 2 issues. The first issue was good, the second was boring as hell and got me a little disinterested.Knightt wrote:I am just about finished with 'The Watchmen'.... interesting but overall (yawn). I will save the complete yay or nay until I finish it tonight.
I can see how back in the day, it changed comics and might have loved to read it when I was younger.
We'll see...
I still have a ways to go, but so far, it's nothing to write home about.
My early impression is that this is probably a great piece of literature and I can see already how it changed comics back in the day. However, if this was written in today's comic environment with a no-name writer attached, it would probably be cancelled quickly.

When I first read it, I was not as impressed as I thought. I could ahve done with out the pirate story.
But the movie looks visually stunning.
I was thinking along the same lines of it being canceled pretty quick. It 'does' pick up but if I am not mistaken this will be a 'I knew that was coming ending' as was the 'villain'.400yrs wrote:I'm in your position. I've started it. Somehow, I've never read it before. The ending was a bit of a let down. The jail scene was good. It will be interesting to see how they do it in the movie.

Yeah, the art doesn't do a lot for me, it's not bad, but not particularly exciting, either. He's good at telling the story, which is the bottom line.Lightning Strike wrote:I know a lot of people don't like Pat Broderick's art, but I think it really fit this series well.Brother J wrote:currently reading Captain Atom, the 80's DC version. The writing is pretty good, I find myself hating General Eiling whenever he makes an appearance. I'm thinking his character could go either way, maniacal villain behind the whole framing of Nathaniel Adam, or just a gruff, unlikable character who is actually a straight up guy. I guess I'll find out soon enough.

Actually, that just jogged something in my memory banks. Eiling ends up showing up in Morrison's JLA run. If it's the same character, that arc explains where he ends up going, something I don't think the Captain Atom series answers.Brother J wrote:Yeah, the art doesn't do a lot for me, it's not bad, but not particularly exciting, either. Now go read Walking dead. And when you read either the last chapter of volume 8 TPB or issue 48 you will know how strong a reaction a comic can create.dave wrote:FINALLY!Elveen wrote:I just read Ronin #1. VERY intriguing.

NO spoilers please anyone with names or any reference. Just read and try to speak afterwards. I was numb for half hour and had to drive.
I trade as Dead Universe Comics in the UK, which is no surprise to those who know of my legendary Dead Universe habit.
