i certainly don't have the least expensive price...but i can offer $25 shipped to anyone looking for one.
the harbinger hc scenerio was a lot different for me in terms of quantity, wholesale price, etc. so i was able to make them available for less. when you add diamond as the middle man, it tends to change things (never for the better

I asked my local retailer what the circumstance was. He said the book (that I pre-ordered) appeared on his invoice, but he didn't receive it and that he had phoned it in to Diamond as a shortage. My understanding of a "shortage" is that Diamond refunds the retailer the following week and attempts to fill shorted books when and if possible; no guarantee though (even though I pre-ordered). A convenient solution for everyone except the customer (who pre-ordered). It's a ridiculously broken system IMO and a catch 22 for me. If I don't pre-order, I'm unable to get the books that interest me; If I do, I might get the books that I've ordered. Is it that publishers and distribution don't know... or don't care? Now I'm in situation that (because I've pre-ordered) I have to wait and see if Diamond is going to fill the order. If I order it elsewhere and Diamond does eventually ship it, my local retailer ends up eating a pricey book. The burden seems unduly placed on the customer. And as an added bonus, because of our weak dollar and the book shipping so late, I get to pay an extra seven or so dollars more than originally planned.daydreamscomics wrote:i received my copies from Diamond this week. Sounds like a lot of you guys are dealing with stores that didn't order it even though they "did".
if anyone gives you can runaround about not being able to order it, it's horse pooie. i already reordered some more...
if anyone needs one, let me know!
Comics should be entertaining. In this case (which is unfortunately not uncommon) every little bit of enjoyment is gradually worn away before the book is even in my hands. This latest runaround just reinforces that I need to stop... I don't need this kind of abuse from my entertainment.

This is a good example of why Diamond's monopoly is one of the worst things in the comics industry now.j schmo wrote:I asked my local retailer what the circumstance was. this is, in essence, how it works. from my understanding, there is usually a quantity that diamond holds back of each issue/trade/etc upon the release date, that are not available for dealers to reorder through the regular reorder process until shortages are filled (assuming any copies are left after shortages are filled).j schmo wrote:I asked my local retailer what the circumstance was. i'm not sure of the % retained, as i'm sure it fluctuates per company, but if you report your shortages sooner than later on shipment day, 95% of the time you are able to fill your missing order. i just ordered more A&A hardcovers, so your dealer should have no problem getting his hands on more copies. as for how long it will take to arrive, that depends on a number of factors, which could make your wait anywhere from 3 days to over two weeks...
also keep this in mind:
it's not NECESSARILY a dealer's fault when something doesn't show up: that falls on the people that pack the diamond shipments to begin with. if they didn't screw up something on EVERY SINGLE ORDER, we wouldn't have shortages to begin with! (i think in the 4 years i've worked at the shop, we have had MAYBE one perfect shipment

there have been weeks when we get ZERO copies of a book we order in large quantity. there was a week when we got about 60 copies of an issue of catwoman when it was supposed to be 60 copies of daredevil (needless to say we don't sell 60 copies of catwoman every month).
it may seem flawed in your eyes, but when it comes to packing/shipping/filling orders, you're bound to run into problems in any form of retail, be it comics or groceries or office supplies...

if you ask me (and no one is) pre ordering something shouldn't be the only way to get your hands on one of these. ALL comic book shops SHOULD be willing to order a copy of this at any time, ESPECIALLY if people are inquiring about it. there's no viable excuse a shop could make to you that you HAVE to pre order this book or you can't get a copy. that's completely unacceptable. if they can't take 30 seconds of their time to click a couple buttons, then they don't deserve your business.j schmo wrote:A convenient solution for everyone except the customer (who pre-ordered). the ONLY scenerio i can see this being a viable "excuse" is if it's a book that was underorded in the first place. which shouldn't happen for the most part on the retailer side of things. in my opinion, if a store has been up and running for years, it should have a good idea of what sells well and what their customers gravitate towards. they should also be keeping inventory of what they sell for each issue/trade of titles they carry. if they can't do something that simple to keep their numbers in the right range, they shouldn't be in this business...
