after having every indication that it would be ok to print the story, Random House and Classic Media turned us down.
I pulled this from the VCS site. This applies to the U2K project that they are doing.

Could this be the reason for the A&A delay?

I don't think so. My understanding with the Unity 2000 stuff is that they needed permission because those books had not been printed before. From what I understand VEI has full reprint rights to all the printed VALIANT/Acclaim books.

Yeah. But that didn't stop VIP from trying to f@ck things up for VEI.

Wouldn't they have done that sooner with the Solar appearances in X-O?

THIS IS JUST SPECULATION

but is it possible that with Dark Horse's acquisition of the license to the GK3, all previous bets are off?

You also have other things to consider as well:

The economy is making borrowing money really hard.

There could be a gag order in place where Dino can't say anything if a lawsuit has popped up.

Maybe he and Jason are just working REALLY hard to get the book out.

Maybe they are in negotiations with Dark Horse and/or Shooter.

Layton just moved to LA. Maybe something else is going on?

I agree, that a "The book has been delayed and we can't talk about it" would be better than nothing at all, but I give everyone the benefit of the doubt.

Just my 2 cents,

Jonathan

You think they will do whatever they can to stop VEI from reprinting any Turok, Solar, or Magnus?

Or maybe slow VEI down enough to let them release some material first.

Again, it was just a speculative posting.

We don't know that Solar's appearance is the cause of the delay.

But if it is, I was speculating why it might suddenly be a problem:

1) In spite of what several have sumised and stated here as fact, I've never seen that VEI got permission to reprint the GK3. In fact, the only thing I ever saw was Jeff Gomez saying that the Company was trying to work out an agreement.

So, if that agreement was never legally reached, and Golden/Western/whomever recently said "NO, you can't use the likeness of our properties, even in reprints," VEI suddenly has a problem.

2) Perhaps Golden/Western/whomever had a "gentleman's agreement" with VEI for reprinting appearances. Perhaps the DH licensing deal was for exclusive rights. Not out of maliciousness, even, but because I would imagine that's just a standard contract thing-y.

:?

Something just seems odd. The books were ready. For them to be done and not ship seems to me an indication of a fairly substantial...development. And since the big known change from solicitation to communicated shipping date was the DH announcement, I'm *SQUEE*-ouuta-you-and-me-ing that there's a relationship between the 2 events.

But I know nothing about this. Unfortunately. (Or not)

That's probably as good a theory as any right now. Dino stated in his last post that he was certain we would have the book in our hands shortly. That was during the last week of September and now we are into November and no news. Something is obviously up or the book would be out by now. I just hope for their sake that it's not more legal wrangling, but I think the signs are pointing in that direction now.

If that's the case then I doubt that VEI can financially handle another legal battle. Especially if it's with DH.

Well, in this instance (and if this truly is the case) they would have to take a hit on this book and move on and do something with the rest of the characters. They could release the A&A book after something is worked out later. It's a blow to say the least, but it's better than having everything tied up like the vip fiasco.

They could always pay someone to rip out the offending pages.

*I'm* primarily buying it for the new story and the "behind the scenes" stuff, anyway. I don't need the red PJs guy, anyway.

They would probably be better off just cutting their losses for now.

I'd just like to get word on "we are working on the delay". Not any details, but just something. Of course, even saying THAT might violate something we are unaware of. So, we get to sit and wait. I'm willing to sit tight for a bit.

Exactly...I feel very safe in saying that much like the legal situation with DF (notice I didn't say VIP) if they were in a position to say anything they would.

I mean, what exact motive could they possibly have for intentionally not telling us...the target audience...what the delay was?

Why would they do that unless they absolutely had to?

I feel certain that once they get to where they can let us know what's up they will.

I personally hope the news is good (a VEI/DH collaboration perhaps) but sadly my gut tells me something bad has happened.

All we can do is wait and find out if we're going to be having a celebration or a remembrance.

If this latest speculation is anywhere near the truth, then why was the Harbinger HC ever released? It has the same red pajama-wearing guy in it, too...

It was released before DH obtained the rights to print new material with those GK characters. I'm not sure if that's a major issue or not, but it is the primary difference with this hardcover.

I think the silence is the biggest indicator that something bad has happened. Where is Dino????? Does anyone know when his last "log on" was?

Sorry about the PM Daniel, I have no idea how that happened! I was responding to your post and suddenly it was a PM. Weird
