X-O Manowar - the movie???
Hey guys,
I was just over at Bob Layton's site and found some interesting stuff. Did you know he wrote treatments for 3 different movies based on Valiant characters. X-O Manowar, Shadowman and Ninjak. Here are the links to the summary of the movies for the X-O and Ninjak. I don't think anyone posted this information before - if they did my apologies.

Pretty cool stuff, eh?

Ya know, this truly baffles me, it does
Movies...based on VALIANT characters
Uhhhhhhhhhhh, can anyone say..IMPOSSIBLE!
It took, what? TWENTY YEARS to get Spider-Man on the big screen, SPIDERMAN!!!
and we think (with ALL due respect, truly) an XO man o war MOVIE could get made?
I honestly don't think ANY Valiant character will EVER have a feature film produced about them, there just isn't the profit to be had

We did talk a little about this a while back.

It is pretty neat info, but I'm still a little perplexed by his choice of Ninjak.

I dunno...there was a Tank Girl movie, and a Rocketeer movie too. Both had their origins in comic books that didn't exactly take the industry by storm. So you never know. We can only hope.Peter Parker wrote:Ya know, this truly baffles me, it does![]()

Oh and by the way, I love both the Tank Girl movie, and the Rocketeer film.
Good point. Prior statement retracted

Other comics with non-existant comic sales that got turned into movies: Phantom, Shadow, Barb Wire, Blade, Crow, Virus, Mask. I would count Steel, League of Extrodinary Gentleman, From Hell, and Hellboy in there but I'm a little fuzzy on their sales numbers.Master Dorque wrote:I dunno...there was a Tank Girl movie, and a Rocketeer movie too. If the movie itself is good enough who cares where it was originally concieved? Spiderman was a profitable movie because it was a GOOD MOVIE, not because it was a familiar comic character. A poorly written comic movie will only have a cult following. A good one will have the backing of all the regular critics.

Exactly. Spiderman was a very well done movie (both of them) and thus the public responded, not just comic book fans.DJSpecter wrote:If the movie itself is good enough who cares where it was originally concieved? the phantom was an incredibly long running sunday comic strip, was it not? And The Shadow was an immensley popular radio serial.Todd Luck wrote:Other comics with non-existant comic sales that got turned into movies: Phantom, Shadow, Barb Wire, Blade, Crow, Virus, Mask. Shadowman project is still somewhat active and at Dimension. Problem is that it is essentially The Crow with a black guy in New Orleans.
Sales don't necessarily mean movie profit - or any other form of media for that matter. When Spawn came out, the opening weekend roughly equalled to one ticket for each comic sold monthly(at that time and according to Wizards numbers). Then it disappeared into the 3.99 DVD bins. Solar 1 - 10 was written like a good movie - so who knows. But it's a pipe dream fellows. They should have tried their hands at the Cartoon Network first. Consider "Static" from that little obscure "Static Shock" Milestone Comic. I bought a Subway Kids meal and got a Static Shock doll with my sandwich.
Those books can be had for 5 cents each. They went straight to the dollar bin.

Started at the genesis - had to come back

If you know where I can get them for 5 cent let me know. Milestones have always been hard to find in my area. Very quality books, but I think Static Shock the show has run it's course (it now seems to be in eternal reruns on Cartoon Network). They really never did much with merchadise for the character. Never even heard of the Subway toys. Ofcourse I can't think of any kids meal promotion with lower exposure than Subway.SiBill wrote:Sales don't necessarily mean movie profit - or any other form of media for that matter. My point is that I wouldn't point to Static as a example of enduring franchise from an obscure (were the sales really that low?) comic though it atleast it lasted three seasons which is more than I can say for most comic characters.
