Ok.... so I've started a list off of your recommendations. So thank you.

Promethea

And Y last man.


I really like Alan Moore and I have heard so much about Y last man. Any thoughts about these series?

I tried Y Last Man, but didn't like it. Others say its great though so I guess I'm in the minority on that one.

Promethea is.....well...different. If you like Moore's writing, you'll probably like Promethea.
I didn't care for it though. It was kind of kooky. You can read more about the series here:

I still say the best TPB's for you to try would be Squadron Supreme, James Robinson's Starman, Invincible and the Walking Dead.

What about Y Last Man and Promethea?

can't help with Promethea. Personally, now that I have read all 60 issues, I feel like Y: The Last Man was kind of a letdown. I was expecting a much bigger and satisfying conclusion than the book provided. There are so many other good books out there, I wouldn't be in a hurry to start reading it.

I read the first Y tpb and thought it was well worth the money...now you have me wondering about the ending...


I've heard Promethea was kind of a let down...

I just finished the first Y the last man trade too. I really liked it.

I'm really curious about the ending now too.

I guess I'm gonna have to go order the next couple of books from Amazon.

BTW, I have found that ordering TPB's from Amazon is a really good way to go. Most of the books are about 40% off cover (except the Valiant hardcovers)and you only have to order $25 to get free shipping.

Just watch out if you decide to buy the "New and used from:" tab. The books seem like they are discounted but they all come from different sellers so you pay shipping on each book. Where you probably would have had a better deal if you bought them all from Amazon directly and didn't pay any shipping.

Hey, do you like Batman? Have you read Dark Knight? Year One? Year Two? Year Three? Lonely Place of Dying? There's a LOT of great Bats stuff from 1986-1990.

Bats is cool. I've read Killing J, DKR, Y1, Hush, Gotham at Gas, Lonley Place of Dying,

I have not read Y2, Y3. One thing I have in the back of my mind is the Long Halloween and Death in the Family.

DK2 was Frank Miller's "Eff You!" to the industry.....

Long Halloween is by TIM SALE and Jeph Loeb...it is outstanding.

Death in the Family is OK, but it's so important historically, it's a must.

Ten Knights of the Beast is also excellent.

Did you like Gotham by Gaslight? That was the very first Batman graphic novel I ever got and read, and I enjoyed it a lot.

I agree. Tons of Batman stories out there to be read.

One series from Batman to look at is the "Legends of the Dark Knight" series. The early issues when it was still about telling Legends and not just another Batman book. I recently picked up the "Gothic" storyline by Grant Morrison in TPB and found it to be as good as I remember it when it came out.

Also, one of the best Batman stories has to be the "Hush" storyline by Jim Lee and Jeph Loeb. It's a really great story and good to look at too!

My only gripe with it is that you have to buy two TPBs or the "Ultimate Hush" which is actually way more expensive than if you bought the other two volume separate.

That's a good deal for those. Planetary starts out great, but kind of loses steam at the end of the series. Cassidy's art is superb though

Early Authority stuff is a must, just got hold of the Starman omnibus and must agree it is very good, all Hellboy and BPRD stuff is a good read and the trades are quite cheap, The Goon is very good as for older classics, V for Vendetta is one of my favorites along with the obvious Watchmen and TDKR

I have started to sell a hell of a lot of my actual comics and replace them with trades (or the HC if available) because they are so much nicer to display and a lot easier to pull out and read

Planetary is probably one of my favorite reads of the last 10 years and i am torn between keeping the comics or selling them and trying to get hold of the Absolute Edition but then it may be a wait of 5 years before they release volume 2 and god knows when we are going to get issue 27 to finish the series

Still waiting to get the regular editions before reading FH? You're missing a great story, man. But, you'll find them eventually. Not TOO hard to come by. Good luck

One of the coolest things about that series is the letters page. It was almost as enjoyable reading the letters as it was the stories.

The back story unfolds over the course of the series (you'll get Jakita's back story by the third TPB, IIRC). Problem is that due to the final issue still not being out yet, there's no fourth TPB published yet (which has the story on how the Drummer came to join Planetary).

Most of the appeal to Planetary is that they investigate things that are homages to other comics (Like pulp heroes vs a "JLA" in the first story, Godzilla monsters in the second, Hong Kong crime movies combined with The Spectre in the third, etc etc.)

Sometime after the final issue is completed. John Cassaday is still working on the art for that one.
