Bristol Comic Expo Magnus cover by Walt Simonson

Post by Lightning Strike »

When I first heard Walt Simonson was doing this cover I e-mailed the guy running the con and asked him if he would save one of them, and after the show I'd buy it from him. The guy said sure.

So I get my mail in today and see a package from the UK. I open it up and the con book is inside. The guy mailed it to me from the UK for nothing. What a super nice guy!

Anyway, here's the cover to it. As you can tell, it's an homage to Magnus #0:

I have never had the pleasure of meeting the man but everything I hear about him from fans say he is the most generous guy at cons especially considering his stature in the field.
Walt is a SUPER nice guy. I've never met him in person, but he frequents another message board and he's always polite and answers every question that is posted for him. Everybody over there affectionately calls him "Uncle Walt"

Looks really cool. I would say it is more of a homage to the Gold Key Magnus books than Magnus 0 though.

Very nice. I'm sure MagnusR would be thrilled to add one to his collection. Any more left?

Probably not, but you might try checking on the net or Ebay to see if you can find one.

I’d agree. The pink line alongside the black rectangle is especially reminiscent of the Gold Key logo block.

So what is it anyway? Is it a convention guide, a convention exclusive comic, or what? Whatever it is—really cool!

Whats incredible about it is how Walt can still pull that amazing stuff out of the bag so many years later and still Wow us, when others who were stars at a similar time just dont have it anymore.

Being British I was able to attend the Bristol Con this year, and have in front of me the booklet in question (no spares though, unfortunately)

It's a small (UK size A5, about two thirds the size of a regular comic), 38 page 'Souvenir Booklet' which mostly just contains the 'guest list' and a lot of adverts. Although there is an interview with Jim Shooter in it (who was the guest of honour, but he pulled out at the last minute), others with Walt Simonson and Jim Starlin.

It was a great con, I met Jock, had a pint with Barry Kitson and caught up with a lot of friends from the UK comics scene.

Anyone else from the UK attend?
