My Story
The first Valiant I ever read was Magnus #25. I was 10 and it was on my Dad's nightstand, and I'm not to ashamed to admit that I was suckered in by the shiny cover. I told my Dad how much I liked it and he let me continue to read the title as well as Rai. I was fascinated by the Malev war.
When issue #33 came out with Timewalker I was hooked on Valiant.
My Dad was only getting Magnus at the time, and had started at around #20. When he was a kid he had a lot of the Gold Key's, and when he saw how interested I was in Magnus he went into the attic and got them down.
Slowly but surely he sarted getting more and more Valiant's. I remember Turok #1 being a big deal when it came out. His favorite title was Archer and Armstrong and Shadowman. I started going to the comic shop with him when the new issues came out. I remember when Chaos Effect came out I got the issues he didn't with my allowance.
After Chaos he stopped buying them and I got interested in other things. The last issue that I got when I was a kid that was a big deal was Original Turok #1. I still have my beat-up read 100 times issue of that (as well as a new one).
About three years ago I started thinking about Valiant again. I typed it into a search engine, found this site, and lurked for along time. I heard whispers of pre-unity and how wonderful it was, so I bought the Unity books.
I read it in a day.
Then I gave it to my Dad and he read it in a day.
It was amazing. And since then I've been trying to get a copy of every issue in some form. It doesn't matter to me if I have all the variant covers, or even if I have all the issues, as long as I have them in TPB. Complete to me means being able to read all the stories in order.
I don't know why I picked today to stop lurking. Maybe I'm excited about the new hardcovers, and the new website. Or maybe I'm excited because I'm only Bloodshot #51 away from having all the stories. Anyway, this is an awesome site and I've really enjoyed everyones stories and opinions on how amazing Valiant is.
