How do you guys quote the previous quote? I haven't quite figured out all the nuances before and this is the only forum I have ever posted on... thanks for making me feel "welcome" - I love the fun!

And as far as being "smarter" than everyone else on the board... I am 60 credits above my Masters - pretty close to my doctorate. Any doctors on the board :)?

Seriously though, reading the ebay policy, because it is the same like item (same brand - Acclaim) I still do not see how this is keyword spamming.

Here is the policy...
Category Guidelines
All words used to describe an item, whether in the title or description of the item page or any other way that may be found using Search, must be strictly related to the item being listed and adhere to the guidelines below. eBay allows other non-relevant text to appear in listings as long as that text is not searchable, which could manipulate eBay’s search engine.

Motors: With vehicular compatible items (such as Xenon headlights for an automobile), reference to various compatible brand/products may be included in the title, provided the title still accurately describes what is being listed. In the same scenario, reference to 25 compatible brands/products may be included in the description.

Books and other printed media: Books and other forms of printed media may use the necessary means to describe their contents. However, these items may not use excessive keywords to do so.

Catalogs: Catalog titles and descriptions may not contain extensive lists of specific items included within the catalog.

Filmographies, discographies and bibliographies: Specific names, locations, etc. may be included in a listing for a book, movie, or album. However excessive use of keywords will not be permitted
.

"excessive use of keywords" - I guess this is open to interpretation which is why there are few people who get listings pulled. Should I contact someone at ebay for clarification?

Yes, there are.

There are also doctoral candidates, such as yourself, on the board.
Seriously though, reading the ebay policy, because it is the same like item (same brand - Acclaim) I still do not see how this is keyword spamming.
That's because you're parsing. You COULD EASILY put "Acclaim" because that's what it is. But it is NOT the specific variant that people are searching for.

The rule is very clear: you cannot use "NOT" in the title to describe any item you're selling. The reasoning behind it is also very clear: if every comic seller on eBay listed every comic they sold with the words "NOT HULK 181", how many hits would you get for "hulk 181" searches? And how many of those auctions would be for an actual copy of Hulk #181? And how many of those buyers, sick of wading through page after page of crap they DON'T WANT, would give up instead of slogging through all that to find an ACTUAL Hulk #181?

Just because your example is a very rare item doesn't mean the policy isn't still in effect.
Books and other printed media: Books and other forms of printed media may use the necessary means to describe their contents. However, these items may not use excessive keywords to do so.

"excessive use of keywords" - I guess this is open to interpretation which is why there are few people who get listings pulled.
Listings are pulled constantly, all the time, every hour of every day. Most sellers on this board have had listings pulled, justly or not, at one time or another.

This section you quote is under the "additional information" section, which applies to titles AND descriptions. The SPECIFIC prohibitions were already dealt with prior to this section, which addressed your "not" scenario.

In this case, "excessive use of keywords" refers to the DESCRIPTIONS. eBay recognizes that books and other printed matter (NOT COMIC BOOKS, IN THIS EXAMPLE) deal with real life people (be they authors or subjects) who can be "keyword spammed."

For example: if Jackie Collins writes a novel, and Stephen King writes a blurb praising that novel (what? It could TOTALLY happen! ), in the description you could write "Stephen King said blah blah about this book!" or some other such manner in which Stephen King is mentioned. "Stephen King" would then become a keyword that would return searches FOR Stephen King, were "descriptions" included in the search.

Next example: if I'm selling a copy of People magazine from 1986, I could list all the people who appear in that magazine...Tom Cruise, Madonna, Ronald Reagan, Pope John Paul II, Christie Brinkley...and all those would now appear in a keyword search containing ANY of those names.

Anyone can see how this could get excessive.

The rule was NOT written with COMIC BOOKS in mind (what an odd sense of deja vu I'm having at this exact moment....weird), so the rule doesn't apply to comics.
Should I contact someone at ebay for clarification?
Sure, but don't talk to one of the drones. They have no damn clue what's going on.

Thanks! Please keep in mind, I did not do this purposely, which is why I changed the listing. I do see your point though... Does this mean I should pull The "Rai X-O Solar" from my Turok listing?

It's a blurry line. Technically, yes, but there may also be people who are interested in Rai, X-O, and Solar looking for what you have. I don't think anyone has a problem with stuff like that, PROVIDED it doesn't get out of hand (and it could, try doing a search for "Spectacular Spiderman" and see how many hits you get that aren't Spectacular Spiderman. It's nearly impossible.

But for things as specific as the EB, then yes, it's clear cut.
