Personally I feel the "NOT EB Games" line is a form of keyword spamming, but what the heck do I know? :?

The last time I listed one I received 40 questions on whether it's an EB Games Edition or not - so I put in "not" to avoid the hassle

hmmm, ok, that is kind of odd, did you have a picture of the book? Anyone with an idea of what the book is should know it has a different cover. Ok, well, carry on! :?

What's odd is that you would take the time to point this out... :!:
I have a pic this time though...

Yeah, it took me so much time to make the post to point out your keyword spamming...

Keyword spamming... isn't that sending non-solicitated e-mails? I have not done that... maybe similar to listing HTF Valiants and writing not CGC in title. I know when I see one not CGC and I want a CGC, I wouldn't even look at it. Good luck in finding your EB Games Edition Turok

1. To send unsolicited e-mail to.
2. To send (a message) indiscriminately to multiple mailing lists, individuals, or newsgroups

Right from dictionary.com - putting a keyword in a title is NOT spamming!

No, keyword spamming has nothing to do with e-mail. It is using a word in your auction title to attract searches for something your item is not. Like your example, the most common one in comics is selling a raw comic and using the phrase "CGC it" or "CGC worthy" or "Not CGC". People who are searching "CGC" as their search end up with a bunch of raw books coming up in their search when this is done. So if someone was specifically looking for "Turok Evolution EB Games", your listing would come up, even though it's not the EB Games variant.

WTF...

If you're going to sell on eBay, you might want to learn their rules:

The problem is, anyone actually LOOKING for the EB Games variant will pull up your auction too.

Not a big deal, some might think.

Multiply that times the 100,000 or so comic auctions on eBay at any given second. Imagine if, instead of a rare book like Evolution, someone was looking for, say, CGC books. Can you IMAGINE how many hits would come up if people did "NOT CGC" in EVERY ONE of their listing titles? 100,000 returns. Frustrated and angry buyers = buyers don't come to eBay = everyone loses (especially eBay.)

You can see where the problem lies, and why it's against eBay policy.

You can easily put in the DESCRIPTION, in large, bold letters, "THIS IS ***NOT*** THE EB GAMES VARIANT", so there is no doubt. You can also post the picture, which should remove all doubts. You can even answer the question ONCE, put it on the auction description, and then leave it at that.

Putting it in the title is, in fact, keyword spamming, against eBay policy, and liable to get your auction pulled if the idiots working at eBay can be bothered to actually follow their own policies.

Because it's a frustrating and annoying practice used by people to give themselves an unfair advantage over others which actually, over the long run, accomplishes the OPPOSITE.

One would THINK that an honest, upright seller such as yourself would WANT someone to point that out to them, so they do things properly going forward....I'd be GRATEFUL to learn of that information, so I didn't continue to do things incorrectly, not chastise someone for pointing it out. :hm:

Are you an honest, upright seller.....?

Situations like this, where a person just doesn't get it, doesn't have a clue, but thinks they do, and goes "balls to the wall" about it...

It just makes me cringe....

I think I just answered your question - I put REG ED in title instead - didn't mean to *SQUEE* you off. I do have an EB Games Edition though... what do they go for? When I look at the rpint runs for the two, it says there is only a 900 copy difference - not too much if you ask me.

The EB variant has been selling for around 100 bucks the last few times they've been put up for sale.

Apparently, many of you are wrong about keyword spamming. According to ebay's policies and rules, keyword spamming is used to initiate hit by using "different products". The examples used are:

1. Timex watch... simaler to Tiffany,. etc.
2. Jessica Simpson Daisy Dukes...

Using your listing to say what an item is not is perfectly good. What I have found out (news to me) is that putting a little keyword in yor listing is against ebay policy... like putting a "JR" in all of my listings or something like that. While I will not put a "Not EB Games Edition" in my listing again, it is NOT aginst ebay policy. Thanks for all of your thoughts, concerns, and eucating me on this matter.

PS anybody have an extra deadside #3, Shadowman V3#6 or Unity 2000 #3?[/quote]

Nobody's "*SQUEE* off."

Learn to take constructive criticism.

You were doing something wrong, you were informed of that fact, and it's now better for you.

The only person "*SQUEE* off", I daresay, would be the OP. And really, there's no reason to be.

 (shoulda read the rest of the thread first... :thumb: )

Yes, my friend. Using "not" is, in fact, against eBay policy:

"Comparisons: Sellers are not permitted to make comparisons between items in a listing title. In the description only, sellers are permitted to compare the item being offered to the functionality of one other similar product, so long as the listing is not misleading in any way as to which company made the item offered.

Example not allowed:

The titles "Leather Handbag, like Chanel","Leather Handbag, Chanel style", or "Leather handbag, not Chanel" are not permitted on eBay because they make comparisons between the appearance of the item being offered, a leather handbag, to a Chanel handbag."

[emphasis mine]

See? You needed to read the WHOLE POLICY first, BEFORE shoving your size 10 1/2 pennyloafers squarely down your throat.

By putting "NOT EB" you were comparing it TO the EB Games variant in discordance with eBay policy.

Seriously, man, you're just digging your hole deeper and deeper and deeper....
