stupid Marvel
I really hope that people vote with their wallets with this one, and make Spider-Man sales plumet. This is what will really make a difference. If people keep buying Spider-Man, then all that will happen is that Joe Q will be proved right.
Yep. If fans don't like it, stop buying the book and make Marvel pay for what they've done.
Without JMS (and Peter David on the other title) I would think sales would drop anyway. You add to that the requirement of buying three Spidey titles a month (that's nine bucks a month!), which just sounds like a hard sale to me (I mean Acclaim tanked just asking everyone to buy their titles twice a month) I would shocked if sales didn't drop. I mean shops may boost their order for the first month or two of BND becasue it's a new hyped "jumping on point" but after that I would expect to see a serious difference in Amazing's sales. Maybe if sales plummet really, really bad that'll let them know something?
I recommend that everyone dropping Spider-Man pick up Spider-Girl. If they see a downshift in the core Spidey title, but an upshift in the one where he is happily married... well....
I think I'll just keep buying the comics I enjoy the art and writing on (Captain America, Thor, Annihation, The Twelve, BPRD and LOSH). If I send any message to any publisher I always hope it's "quality sales."

He's not on Nova anymore, I am fairly certain of this.

Now he's on the excellent series Savlation Run. FREAKIN' AWESOME SERIES! GO READ IT ALL OF YOU!

back to the SM topic...

this change in 20+ years worth of story is big enough where it made main stream television news in the Madison market... :o ...who'd a thunk.

I assume this was very recently.

Here's the part I find interesting: The vast overwhelming majority of the time the mainstream press does a story on big event comics (the wedding and Death of Superman, the breaking of Batman, the death of Cap, etc) it's because a press release was sent to them from the company putting out the comic. The releases are usually sent in advance (usually right before it's time to for retailers to order the issue) but recently Marvel did some releases right when the issues came out (Spidey unveiling his ID, the death of Cap).

The last issue of OMD came out the 28 of December. As far as I can tell, the earliest story about this in a mainstream paper or newscast was an article in USAToday dated the 9th of January featured prominately on Yahoo, which focused on the fan outrage over the event. Most likely other publications picked up the story after they saw USAToday do it (that's usually how these things work).

The two week lag time between the comic and the beginning of the "big" news stories on it most likely indicates there was no release by Marvel on it. This was never intended to be a big "mainstream" story by them for obvious reasons. OMD is one those continuity heavy, in-story retcon/reboot explanaitions that really isn't meant for those who don't read the comic. It's typically the type of story that confuses and alienates those new to comics (hell it confuses and alienates long time readers too).

So as Joe Q feared would happen if he killed or divorced MJ, the media has stumbled on to the event regardless of Marvel's wishes, shining a big ugly spotlight on it (ironically a few years back, when MJ was presumed dead or seperated I don't recall a single story about either).

I can't wait to see the outcry if they reveal someone big, like Mr Fantastic or Professor X, is a Skrull. Comic fans are gonna flip out.

Hmm...

The retcon out of this retcon...

Peter and/or MJ is/are skrulls.

Fund it.

I want royalties when that comes down, Joey Q.

 That would be cool. Just think, if Spiderman sales fall drastically, Joe Q. gets fired, and the next EIC comes in and says "gotcha! Peter and MJ were really skrulls, so the "deal" never happened."

This line was the best:

“Just look at this garbage!” screamed 37-year-old David Morden, thrusting forward one of the four copies of the book in his possession. “Peter Parker [Spider-Man’s alter ego] is nearly in his 30s, and he’s still living with his aunt!” David had more to say on the subject, but then his mother arrived to pick him up from the store and take him home.

I actually like this part:

"Nobody knows who fired the first shot, but within moments, the writer’s table was being pelted with DC Absolute Editions and Marvel Omnibuses. Thankfully, the volumes’ impressive weight combined with the general lack of athleticism amongst the protesters resulted in few serious injuries."

BTW, I just read the first issue of the new Spidey crap. It's a storyline straight out of Stan Lee with PP having money trouble, running into Aunt May at embarassing times and finally getting the courage to stand up to JJJ only to see the old guy have a heart attack.

:!:

I read all those stories years ago! This is the big reboot?

Was there this much uproar when marvel dragged us through 150 Spiderman comics to tell us the great clone sage story?

Continuity and such ended way long long ago and i dropped the Spiderman books back in 91 due to old toss being offered every month.

What made all these people stay on or start again.

Straczynski's stuff was so overated it makes me laugh.

Sure they ruined twenty years of continuity but of those twenty years how many years were actually worth a toss to start with?

Yeah, I wasn't too happy with the first Brand New Day issue. I mean, the way Peter is acting all together is WAY out of character with how he's been in recent issues, and since supposedly nothing has changed, I'm a little confused on why that is. Why does he have a web shooter again? Did the Others and all that stuff not happen? Did Harry ever marry Liz and they have Normie? The whole thing is just confusing and annoying. But in all honesty the only thing that might make me quit collecting is if they don't drop this $3.99 price tag. That's too much for a comic.... especially one this bad.

Just a general note to everyone (I found this out myself last week) Spidey didn't get his organic webslingers from The Others, he got them in a plotline in Spectacular Spderman labeled Spiderman Disassembled.

Not that that helps anyone's current confusion.

Well according to Marvel it's not a reboot. Everything but the wedding still happened it's all just...very confusing now.

Did fans get as upset over the Clone Saga? Hell, yes! The level of *SQUEE* from the fans over that was legendary.

Was anything in the last 20 years worth keeping? Other than JMS's run, in my opinion, not much. Of course there many fans (some on here) who love those 90's comics. Honestly, love them or hat them, for long time fans (or those who dare to buy trades and back issues) to understand what their reading now it should be there. Otherwise it gets really confusing. Trying being a long time DC fan sometime. LOL
