Ivar?
Was Ivar an afterthought? We all know Gilad and Aram came first in the comics and up until Ivar appeared there was no talk of a third immortal brother. Did Valiant just decided to "make" a third brother? It seems this way to me.
I also remember reading somewhere that time travel via the arcs does a number on the body but because Ivar is a quick healer, he could handle it. How does this explain the guys that mooch a ride from Ivar? e.g Magnus or Visitor/Peter. These guys aren't known to be quick healers yet they showed no signs of wear. Was this just another inconsistency?

it wasn't just his quick healing ability that supposedly made hime able to handle the time travel, but also his overall toughness...so magnus of course could handle it...pete of course had all this potential power to do just about anything so he must've been able to will himself to endure it...or maybe placed himself in a protective bubble or something.
ivar seems like an afterthought to me as well...i thought the series had the potential of being far better-if they had only done it more along the same lines as early EW...doing a flashback where ivar is in a similar situation that helps him out in his current predicament...they had a few really good issues towards the end...issues 9 and 10 i think-the issues with the novelists doing guest stories...they picked up on the fun little things more-like his habit of sharing gum with people as an ice-breaker.

Yep, you got it on the retroactive afterthought. When EW #1 was written their were only two immortal brothers.Sect wrote:Was Ivar an afterthought? The guys in Archer and Armstrong 10 and 11 who accidently traveled in time could do that because Valiant hadn't thought of that rule that normal people can't travel through time (if I can't be clever, I can atleast be honest

Later, after BWS left, time travel and Ivar's ability to do so got changed and they added in this thing where you have to be "super human" to survive time travel (so any Harbinger could do it).

IIRC Ivar first appeared around A&A and Eternal Warrior 8Todd Luck wrote:Yep, you got it on the retroactive afterthought. In some issues he heals by being in the arc.Sect wrote:I also remember reading somewhere that time travel via the arcs does a number on the body but because Ivar is a quick healer, he could handle it.
The arc triggers on the robot and they both go to North-Am and saves Magnus and some kids from the Malevs. At the end of the whole time traveling fiasco in A & A, Solar sends Ivar and a robot back to Egypt so that Ivar could be with his greatest love.
After the event of that issue he shows up in Timewalker Yearbook.
Btw, for continuity buffs, the Magnus issue indicates that Ivar has ran into Bloodshot some time.

The robot made a mistake going in with Ivar. So it disrupted Ivar's chance to go to Egypt.Sect wrote:Question: At the end of the whole time traveling fiasco in A & A, Solar sends Ivar and a robot back to Egypt so that Ivar could be with his greatest love.
What ever happened? Was there any reprecussions because of that?
Thanks for the nice words. Like you said. That's love that it is. I really enjoy the Valiant stories, and how they all come together. And there's always more to discover. Plus, I love to analyse things. I'd say these kind of questions show a love for good stories and make a big step to a broader knowledge of the Valiant universe.dave wrote:what is this love affair you have with valiant?

Actually, I showed up on a Valiant letters page, too. I can't remember which one, I think it was one of the Shadowman issues. I might have had another, too...I'd have to go back and check. I bet we have a few more on here that had letters printed.
The coolest was winning a Baldy award for a Superman letter for DC, though. They sent me a postcard with Lex Luther on it. That's what the "Baldy award" was.
Ah, well, I guess I should quit bragging.
Seriously, I was disappointed when they stopped doing letter columns at Valiant.

A&A #11 was way before Chaos Effect. The title deals with Chaos Effect in issue #26.

What's interesting is that in Eternal Warrior/A&A #8, it is implied that Gilad is the older brother, because Aram says to Ivar, "...our big brother...," referring to Gilad.
However, later they changed that, and had Ivar become the older brother, if I remember correctly. So they made a pretty big continuity gaffe.

Re: Ivar?
actually there is mention of Ivar in Archer and Armstrong 0, the origin of Aram and Gilad. When their encampment is destroyed, Ivar (who is implied to be the younger of the 3) was kidnapped and taken by "whoever" destroyed the villiage. Aram convinces Gil to let him stay there, relying on the fact that he will be raised in a good society and grow well.Sect wrote:Was Ivar an afterthought? Actually, that's Kalam, Gilad's son, and it's the geomancer he talks to in Eternal Warrior 1. Ivar really came from nowhere, and the way it was explained, the father from Eternal Warrior 1 was only a foster father, and none of them ever knew about Ivar.ZaphodBeeblebrox wrote:When their encampment is destroyed, Ivar (who is implied to be the younger of the 3) was kidnapped and taken by "whoever" destroyed the villiage. bah...comics are too buried to argue...and what you say...could be true. of course my memory has failed me before.
and thanks, gotta go with the more obscure literary references when choosing a handle now-a-days.
I have been visiting this website for reference for nearly a year now and just now realized it had a message board...so gotta go play catch up.
