My story is a familiar one...

Post by hawkboy71 »

I was 20 when I came across a new title that I had loved as a child 'Magnus Robot Fighter'. Immediately I remembered my older brothers Gold Key comics with the painted covers so long ago read into dust. I picked up the first issue of this new Magnus and loved it, but because I was a starving college student my Valiant purchases were sporadic at best.

I had a friend who bought Solar (Another name from my youth) so I read his copies and would pick up the odd title here and there (Two titles I never touched during Valiants heyday was RAI and Harbinger..a sin I am making up for now!) and really dug into two titles l... X-O, and Bloodshot.

Those two were my faves and it's funny because I loved Bloodshot but hated characters like the Punisher or Lobo. Something about Angelo Mortalli was deeper and more meaningful than those other gun toting bad guy killing one trick ponies. He was written well... hell, ALL the titles were written well. Oh yes and I LOVED Don Perlins art...

Another thing I enjoy about the Valiant universe is that for the first couple of years the art style was all kind of the same. All the books shared a similar look. I'm not sure if this was by design or what, but it led to a world that seemed more unified somehow. I'm no stickler for strict continuity as that can really bog a story down, but Valiant took on a fluid continuity and made it work.

Now since I have purchased the comic book software 'comicbase' I have been organizing my comic book collection and I dipped into my Valiant comics for the first time in years... I haven't looked back. I've been plugging up holes and recently got a good run of NM harbingers to tuck into. Can't wait to get more new/old back issues!!
