Hello from Italy
Ciao!
I'm an Italian fan of the Valiant universe.
It's been a while since i'm visiting the site of Greg and i want to make my compliments to him beacuse it's a wonderful site and very well-done.
In Italy the Valiant universe was published in 1994 only for a year and half and it was unsuccesfull and very very bad published.
But i had always loved the Valiant comic books and it's heroes and recently i hav buyed in internet the complete collection of Magnus, Solar, Harbinger, Rai. Doctor Mirage and near complete collection of Bloodshot and Eternal Warrior.
I' sorry for my english, i'm not good at write and talk it!
See you!!

Welcome to the boards!
Can you tell us how the Italian versions of the Valiant comic books
were sold in Italy? Are they only sold in comic book shops?
Or are they sold with newspapers and magazines?
You said that they did poorly... did they print too many?
Or were they just not popular because they are not well-known?
Thanks!
Greg

Yep, the interesting thing about the Italian editions of Valiant books is...
almost all of them contain multiple books, across different titles.
http://www.valiantcomics.com/valiant/italian/
They were printed about two years after their American counterparts...
and the numbering system is different...
The cover of the Italian Turok #1 is actually X-O Manowar #14 art.
The cover of Italiant Turok #2 is actually Ninjak #2 art...etc.
Fun stuff, no doubt!

The Valiant book in Italy were sold in the newsstand.
The publisher was the Play Press of Rome, they start with the book Turok: il cacciatore di dinosauri (the translation of Turok: Dinosaur Hunter) and it contains one issue of Turok, one issue of Ninjak and one issue of Doctor Mirage, later Doctor Mirage was replaced by the wonderful Archer and Armostrong.
After some months they begin to publish X-O il guerriero (translation of X-O Manowar) which contains two issue of X-O and one issue of Shadowman.
The Play Press also published a one-shot of Solar containing Alpha & Omega and a one-shot of Magnus containing Magnus 0 and Magnus Yearbook.
This book were the only Valiant comics ever published in Italy.
The Valiant Heroes are not well-known in Italy and the book sell a few.
And the Play Press in my opinion has done a bad work beacause it starts with Turok, Ninjak and Doctor Mirage instead of beginning with Magnus and Solar which represent the core of the Valiant Universe.
They didn't publish Unity also.
Now in internet I buy the entire collection of Magnus, Solar, Rai, Doctor Mirage Harbinger and th near-complete Bloodshot, Eternal Warrior, Timewalker excepte for the "Birthquake" numbers.

Amen for the internet. when I was in Hong Kong no one carried the later Valiant Issues, without ebay I never would have got those issues. The Valiant Heroes are not well-known in Italy and the book sell a few.

Do you have any Italian copies for sale or trade? I'd be happy to trade some of my extra issues for a set of Italian Valiants. I also look for any Promotional materials. E-mail me if you'd like to set up a deal. Best regards---Steve G
In Italy the Valiant publications can be found easly and often at low prices, a friend of mine who is owner of a comics-shop has a lot of issue of the italian Turok and X-O.
