I like homages. Here's a few that come to mind quickly (mainly Valiant internal references, and one that was traced of an old cover). What is there more?

I think that the reason for this is simple the Calafiore art in the first Armorines book was nice but very house style like many of the books under Layton. The pencils on the pages are very sharp and crisp but when inked many of the sharp lines were curved to give it a certain look.Daniel Jackson wrote:Although I didn't really care for either version of Armorines, the art was pretty good. I think the Acclaim version may have been done just a little better too, IMO.betterthanezra wrote:There both the same artist so I think they are both great....
different inker is all...![]()

When Jim penciled the second Armorines book all the line work is there and inked like it's penciled sharp and thats why the art is so NICE in the first Armorines book. Layton and his house style handi-caped Jim more than any other artist IMOP.

I hate to be an *SQUEE*, but not quite, Bro. It is a direct rip of the Pieta Virgin. The dominance of the female form to show the frailty of the Mags Jesus character is the defining characteristic of the Pieta. As you can see in both of them, the female from is about 20-30% larger than the male. The covers on that link are not really similar in any way, where the female form is uncharacteristically large. Interesting side note, the left index finger of the Pieta has been broken several times and has been epoxied back on.Brother J wrote:it also follows in the footsteps of these comics...Elveen wrote:What about the Harby #14?

Not trying to be a *SQUEE*. Just making a correction. I feel like Mota.

Just gotta go through the galleries of that site. I did find Harbinger 14 in there.Brother J wrote:it also follows in the footsteps of these comics...Elveen wrote:What about the Harby #14?

Oh yes. Already in VH1 Calafiore's art stod out, but in VH2 it was allowed in full bloom. But the Armorines VH2 1 cover suffers from the coloring I think. Armorines 0 is slightly nicer.betterthanezra wrote:I think that the reason for this is simple the Calafiore art in the first Armorines book was nice but very house style like many of the books under Layton.
