Early Magnus on back of Nintendo page?

Post by sonicdan »

Thinking about Nintendo art got me to finally look into this...
On the back side of the original art page to Nintendo Comics System (April 1991) #3 pg 6 are some sketches that looka bit like a certain
Robot Fighter...

Here's some close ups:

I'm not sure who drew these. George Caragonne, Paris Cullins and Art Nichols are credited on this story (along with Jade and "Rainbowhead").
I think it looks a bit like Cullins stuff maybe. Any thoughts or ideas?

Interesting discovery, Dan. Might be hard to track down the real story on the sketches, though!

Thats pretty cool. Looks quite a bit different from how he turned out 1 month later though.

The closest thing I have to compare that with is on a Deathmate page by Jim Lee, theres a nice sketch of a T-Rex on the back.

The poses have a striking similarity to Magnus, but the face looks like a cross between Manhunter and Darkseid.

So...

We have an X-O on the back of a Conan sketch, Magnus on the back of a Nintendo art board...

Sounds like I've been looking to buy the WRONG type of art for some unique Valiant items!
