Azrael

Post by Sting »

Az was on of my favourite characters and what struck me most about him was the great original costume. Then the whole Knightfall thing which was ok, then his solo run which got *SQUEE* up with the second and third costumes , moving out of Gotham and then apparently killed/ series cancelled. Not sure why they ever changed the costume ( Maybe cause Joe Q designed it and he was now Chief at Marvel??

Anyway I feel DC wasted and ruined Azrael and should return him to his original glory.

Thoughts?

I have taken the sword and outfit that Batman has in the first 2 page Countdown ad to mean either the return of Ra's Al Ghul or possibly more signifiacntly Azrael ('sword of azrael' as it were).

Where's Azrael? - DiDio said, “He's still dead, He's the only one who stayed dead”

:!:
I wouldn't take Didio at his word on anything. That isn't to say Jean Paul Valley won't stay dead (I lost touch with the character after Knightfall), but rather Didio openly admitted to deceiving the Flash comic buying public earlier in the feature. Plus he was the <strike>dick</strike> idiot who blew the multiverse reveal with his 'secret' code...

Soemone asked at WWPhilly and Bob Wayne basically laughed it off.

The Azrael mantle is being played with in the MANHUNTER series, currently on hiatus. More info on that at www.manhuntercomics.com

Yup, while I tried to re-store my missing issues collection. I actually have thought of getting some Azrael issues since I have #3 (first series, so *SQUEE* awesome).

I believe JPV is better off being in neutral character. He looks more hero lately through his regular series (I assumed from judging on the covers). I'd stick with old JPV.

I'd give a madprop to that guy who hordes Azrael #1 9.8 cgc. Haha.

I suppose that the problem for DC is that the role of Bat-family anti-hero is being pushed for the ressurrected Jason Todd/Red Hood/Red Robin-to-be.

I agree with that. That's why I like the non-JPV idea, or even the potenial of a Vertigo title with JPV (lot of interesting themes to play with) who can be inserted into DC proper at times.
Maybe seperating the character somewhat from the Batman mythos and throwing him into the wider/murkier DCU or Vertigo-Universe?

Not to mention that he blasted PAD for ruining Lobo in Young Justice.

I think it's a cool cover, so I would like to get on in 9.8 one day.

One of my favorite characters. When did he die?

I really liked the series in the early issues with D O'Neil.

DC's Azrael definitely needs more exposure... here's what came up for Azrael when I checked Google.

From the Goth Talk sketch, if my memory serves.

Molly Shannon was rather hot in that bit.
