How well appreciated is this set of two limited series?

'Breed was great. 'Breed II 1 - 5 was great, but the last issue left a bad taste in my mouth. It felt rushed.

I don't think I am alone.

I never read the second series, but the first was stellar. Looking back, I think it could have made a pretty good movie.

Someone recently said of Infinity Crusade to read the first five, burn the sixth and make up your own ending.

I'd say to read the first five issues of 'Breed II, don't read or destroy the sixth, and make up your own ending. It will be much more satisfying anyways.

I have doubles of 'Breed II 1, 2, 3 and 5 (sorry, no extra 4 or 6) if you are looking.

Some love it, some hate it.... the TPB is a bit hard to find though but can be found for a fair price.

I've only read the first series, but I think that 'Breed is pretty kick *SQUEE*.

The story isn't that bad but it has nothing to do with the rest of the Valiant universe. It reminded me of a title published in the 90's by Malibu called Breed.

I only remember reading the first couple of issues of Breed. It didn't seem that great to me but I was never into the Cosmic storylines normally associated with Starlin's work. Did it ever become a regular series?

Think I never finished it because I quit comics (for a second time) when Valiant quality tanked. The June '94 books were the last books I purchased. My only regret from leaving the hobby was not supporting Jim's efforts with Defiant.

There were two 'Breed mini-series. It was not cosmic so much as it was mystical.

No regular series ever came from it.

I think Breed would better suited as a horror comic than a cosmic or mystical.

I highly recommend both Breed 1 and 2 they're both great series and also they're a somewhat semi-autobiographical of Jim Starlin himself!

Starlin had planned a third Breed series that was supposed to be the final
one, then Bravura went under and Starlin has apparently abandoned it. Breed appeared in Bravura #0 and made a brief cameo in Wyrd: The Reluctant Warrior (which is a great liberal satire series). When promoting Cosmic Guard Starlin was asked if he was going to finish
Breed III or Dreadstar: Cla$$ Warfare and he said no he was
going to focus on Cosmic Guard and nothing else.

There was supposedly a PC game made by Starlin's multi-media company, Electric Prism, that was based on the outline for Breed III. However I don't know if the game was ever finished or if it was
any good.

I bought a bag of comics for a dollar at the Slave Labour booth at Comic Con last year and it had Wyrd #3 in it. The LCS has two trades of it sitting on the shelf and one is on my "to get" list. That bag also had Private Beach #2, and I have since acquired the first and second series with the exception of the last issue of the second series (anyone got one to trade?).

Might have to get it now that I know 'Breed makes a cameo.

I am reluctant about a third one. With the note it ended up on, I hope he wraps it up well. What am I talking about? It's Starlin. Of course he'd wrap it up well.

Is Cosmic Guard still going? I picked up the first mini and thought it was pretty enjoyable even though he was obviously aiming at a more teen audience.

I forgot to mention that the last page of Wyrd, The Relucant Warrior
#6, that Ginn (Wyrd's gargolyle sidekick) asks Wyrd what's next and Wyrd replies that he has a cameo in Unity 2000 #4!

Page 11, on a milk box. Also issue 2, page 5.

Issue 5, page 13 is, as far as I know, the only place where he's present in person.

You have peaked my interest in this series now magnusr. What is the basic premise of this series if you don't mind my asking. Without revealing to much of the story if you can.

Wyrd, The Reluctant Warrior is an extremely liberal satire (if you're a Conservative Republican I recommend avoiding this book) on Corporate American, politics, homophobia, and super-heroes.

Wyrd is a mystic warrior who is called upon to fight an evil interdimensional corporation that will destroy the Earth.
Unfortually after 68 Wyrds number 69 has his fair share of problems. The first being Wyrd 68 isn't there to train him (a smartass gargoyle named Ginn has to train him when he's not drinking) due to Wyrd's 67 being a homophobiaic and refusing to train 68 who was gay and involved with MaxiMan (a gay Superman like comic book character who was in love Wyrd 68) and since Wyrd 69 isn't gay and MaxiMan doesn't take rejection well...you get the idea.
And if that isn't enough his own father was the one who made the deal to sell Earth the corporation and was going to scarifies him as part of the deal!

This series is basically Jim Starlin's political manifesto and he pulls no punches he takes shots at GW Bush (and this was published in 2000), DC,
Marvel, the GOP, mass media, pop culture, Bill Gates, and consumerism.

It's also very funny and doesn't take itself seriously at all, in one issue
the villains put on a musical number to try and lure Wyrd 69 to their side.
Also there are cameos of other Jim Starlin characters: Vanth Dreadstar,
Syzygy Darklock, Breed, Hardcore Station, Thanos, and other characters pop up in the background.

The story was and still is very policial I always felt that if Marvel or DC published this series it would've gotten MAJOR media coverage. That being
said Starlin really beats the joke of Corporate America to death by #2.

The art uses a lot CGI backgrounds with Starlin's line art over them, it
doesn't always work and it being also published in black and white doesn't help much.

The book is worth a look, but if you pay more than $20 for the single issues you're getting ripped off.

You get the feeling that Jim Starlin was wanting this to be his greatest work and honestly it's not it's just average.

I am a Conservative Libertarian and I was not angered too much by the one issue I've read so far, but I do intend to buy the trade someday.

Not really. More like the political manifesto he suggests for others. A man who orchestrates a mail hate campaign against an individual because he has a contractual disagreement with the employer of said individual can not be called liberal. I guess that in some ways I'd put him to the right of Bush.

Yeah but being black and white I somehow feel as though I'm being ripped off at $2.99 as new Marvel issues go for now and they're in color. Just my gut feeling is all. If someday I find em in discount bins then maybe.

I've seen trades go for under $10 (it's cover price is $20) at few LCS round here but that was a few years ago though.

I have some Wyrd but not complete so havent read them yet.

Loved Breed but again the end didnt do it for me.

Picked up a lovely Gold embossed #1 premium for 50p last year at a show.

When I get re-situated and get my doubles back arranged in an accessible manner, I'll have to check what all I've got. I think I've got an extra 1 or 2 of those.

I have probably had 5 Breed (first series) 1 Gold foils and do have a silver.

I just recenty got both sets,I really enjoyed the 1st series.I will start on the 2nd maybe this weekend.I really have so far enjoyed it.
