rags and bair want STUPID money for their art...
i remember seeing bloodshot yearbook pages that bair was selling that was ridiculously priced...and this was within the last couple of years.
don't get me wrong, it's wonderful stuff...but there's a limit to how much art will sell for.
same goes for bryan hitch...an 11x17 fully inked one figure splash was selling for $3000 in charlotte last year.
you don't even want to know how much ultimates pages were.

What a bunch of arrogant @ssholes. They basically said yeah the published side told the retailer side. Why shouldn't we? And yeah we jacked up the price and totally took adavatage of our postision. Why Shouldn't we? The only thing we didn't do was a behind the scene deal with marvel to get an edge. Marvel had nothing to do with it. We just took advantage of our position in the industry as a retailer and a 'trade' magazine to steal money from comic books collectors. Why shouldn't we? We are a totally, morally responsible company! Scumbags...

All right, I just want to sum it up for anyone skimming this thread and get their attention.
DO NOT BUY WIZARD MAGAZINE!
These clowns not only did the very same thing that gets traders on Wall Street jail time (albeit they did it with a commodity other than stocks and bonds) they flaunt it in front of the world!
To echo some of what was said over at Newsarama, Wizard claims to support the hobby. Wizard claims to help collectors. Wizard claims they want the hobby to do well. Then, they smack the local comic shops and other retailers by holding back information from them and then competing with the same retailers who stock Wizard Magazine on their shelves. This hobby won't last long without small retailers.
Screw Wizard. I was never much of a fan, but this is outrageous and should not be forgiven by those of us that actually do love and support this hobby and the retailers that make it possible. My new mission in life is to see to it that every collector I encounter knows what Wizard did and why it is bad for the hobby and for collectors.

Is what Wizard did illegal? No, definitely not. Is it right? Absolutely not. They took inside information, used it to increase their orders and profit on what they knew would be a shortfall in the marketplace.Drew Seldin wrote:But, again, as we were planning it, the perception was that we were operating for the industry, to make sure there were books out there, to create excitement, and to make some money.

Yeah, but were the books going to be hot anyway, or are they hot because Wizard said so? And is there any long-term stability to their "hot" books? I know their top ten lists certainly don't stand the test of time, I doubt the Treasure Hunt books will be any different.cobra_commander wrote:You know...they are a bunch of @ssholes...but, they do let you in on books that are gonna become hot in their little Treasure Hunts...thats information sharing![]()
Just my opinion.

Well, yeah there would be a little sacrafice on our side involved in boycotting Wizard. Just saying 'oh yeah that is evil' and then continuing to buy the mag just encourages (or at least does nothing to discourage ) them to keep doing what they do. Even if you disagree with what they do, if you continue to buy the magazine then you support them and their actions. The idea is to go without so that either Wizard will take notice and either stop being evil sonsofbeetches or will keep being evil sonsofbeetches and will go out of buisness and a new, more responsible trade mag with be born.Of course what they did on the Cap 25 is awful and doesn't nothing makes up for that but I can't give up Wizard...I miss the Treasure Hunts Crying or Very sad

To sum it up, "All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing. I've never been a big Wizard fan, but I'll admit that is subscibed once. It was to get their special edition Hellboy comic, but I still did it. I used to pick it up now and again, but I'm through with them now. I also refuse to buy from their online store, regardless of how bad I want their latest special edition.

Re: Captain America #25 & Wizard...
I have heard this. I think the most atrocious aspect is, as a 'price guide' they should not be influencing the industry, just observing.daydreamscomics wrote:so the word on the streets from several industry persons and stores is this:
WIzard, which was privy to the events of Captain America #25 before it was released, put in a HUGE advance reorder (means it was reordered before it shipped to stores) on the fist print editions of Captain America #25.
the day it dropped, they were then selling them through their ebay ID for $50 for both covers. and by selling, i mean by the boatload.
i remember seeing one ID had probably 25-30 listings that were ending that first night, but really paid it no mind. turns out it was Wizard. as soon as people figured this out and word spread, Wizard pulled all their remaining auctions/listings for the book.
i find this horribly wrong. as my manager put it, they basically used insider trading to profit on this book.
what i find funny is that Wizard feels they need to cheat people, probably because the rumors of them being broke is true...
anyone else heard this story?
