Hey,

I just got into the forums here though I did the Valiant Comics website for awhile. Anyways, I just started getting into PC Comics (like the .cbr files) and I saw the discussion on scanned Valiants here and I was just wondering what the easiest way to come across scanned issues?

Thanks,
Greg

Just ran across this on Ebay. Be careful though, his feedback is not that great.

i highly advise do NOT buy them off ebay. most of the time they are not scanned by those people and are making money off others hard work. ill give you a link to a site that has the first section avalible. but you need a bit torrent client to download them. let me know if you need any help. everything is free. no need to pay money. its a community thing adn we all do it cuase we love tghe comics and want to share these great stories. we all own thre issues.... :hope: its safer to read them on the cpu then bend them out of the bag lol.

What's up?
Yeah, I kind of agree on the whole profitting on someone elses work... so I can't imagine buying it from ebay. I would greatly appreciate that link, thanks.

Oh, and by the way.... how do you actually MAKE cbrs?

making the cbr files is easy.

1. First you scan the book, saving each page as a jpg.
2. Then you rar the files up (which will result in a .rar file)
3. Rename the rar file to have a cbr extension

The only trick is to save the individual pages with names that will cause it to sort in the rar index properly. For example, I use:

title-issue-page.jpg (and page is always a 2 digit number)
such as:
Solar-1-01.jpg

If you do a google search for cbr, you'll find many more helpful little hints and more verbose instructions.

I've not used a Bit Torrent. Is it similar to Napster or KaZaA? Do you just do a search and the interface brings up the hits?

I wanna get in on all that digital Valiant fun. :thumb:

I downloaded Bit Tornado for FREE from:

http://bittornado.com/download.html - choose Sweden Mirror

After the install I opened the Valiant Torrent file, pointed to where I wanted to download the files and away it went. I'll try to leave my computer on for as long as possible.

Hope this helps

Okay, I'm going to try that this weekend... just one more question...
what's the average DPI most people scan at?

Really vary a lot. One detail, the result's much nicer if you put a black paper behind the page you're scanning.

Allright, I downloaded the Bit Tornado app and installed it. When I execute the program, it keeps asking for which .torrent file to use? How in bloody blazes do you get past that??? :?

So far my share rating is 3.1 =)) I'll keep it up for a bit longer though.

This is like the best thing to ever happen to Valiant. Having the freedom to read freely without browsing through hundreds of pounds of comics is a GODSEND! Can I get an AMEN?!? (no worries I'm not religious)

In an effort to spread Valiant in a new way which I've never been able to do before I'm going to leave my Valiant Torrent running indefinitely. For those jonezing for Valiant I'll be a beacon of Valiant light to get 'em connected.

Anyone else leaving the comp on to get V1 out to everyone asap?

I'm pretty sure the torrent works while your comp hibernates so we can all be good Geomancers and keep the planet happy. :thumb:

Ok guys this is what I did, and I'm a complete newbie to this torrent stuff.

I downloaded and installed Bit Tornado.

Then I opened the program.

I then downloaded the Valiant Torrent from the Cult website.

Once you have the Valiant Torrent file you then double click it and it opens the Bit Tornado and askes which folder you want the Valiant directory downloaded to. Once you pick the spot you're done. All you have to do is wait.

If your experience is anything like mine then you'll download what appears to be the entire torrent fairly quickly but you actually need to wait for the entire thing to actually be downloaded before you can view any pages.

All in all it took me a full day and night to download the files using Cable modem.
