It already looks like Marvel is gonna screw this storyline up anyways. There's a LCS here that's already starting to dump their ASM #509 first print for cover price. By the looks of it, I think they had a huge box stashed away when Wizard was hyping it.

Ok, I finally got caught up and was able to read through this topic (I kept seeing it here but stayed away to avoid the spoilers) I have a couple questions/comments

1. You mentioned second prints, I thought marvel had stopped all reprints in favor of trades only.

2. They address the age issue of the kids in one of the issues (510 or 511) Peter says the age is wrong.

3. Harry would make a good twist but there would be no reason for his and Gwen's kids to have any sort of mutation that would make them age faster.

Anyways I have to agree with Whetteon JMS's run is by far the best Amazing has been in a very long time, I really hope they don't pull him off for Kevin Smith like they had planned.

Any doubts about this should be erased in the pages of Amazing Spiderman #300. Then, #302.

MJ was a SUPERMODEL, for christ's sake, but she was plain jane for MOST of the 70's and 80's...

God bless Todd McFarlane for making MJ hot once more.

and....Gwen who?

By the by....I think the organic development of MJ and Petey's relationship over the course of 20+ years (5 or so in the comics) is one of the best character developments in the entire HISTORY of comics.

They didn't get married for 20+ YEARS after they first met, they broke up often, Pete played around with Gwen, and Betty, and even Felicia before realizing that MJ was it.

Heck, MJ DISAPPEARED from the entire Marvel Universe for FOUR YEARS in the early 80's.

The fact that there wasn't some '25 year plan' to accomplish that, but that it happened organically, motivated by the stories told, only serves to make it that much better.

Hey dellamorte,

Recently marvel has been doing 'director's cut' printings, which is basically second prints with some added material (appendix stuff like - story developement, partial plots, art sketches etc.). Also the second print is usually a hard stock cover.

I think the kids are clones of Peter Parker, not actually his children as I don't see any logical way these could actually be regular children of Peter Parker or any of his cast of characters and have aged normally. The whole Gwen pregnant thing might be true (probably with Harry as the father) but I don't think these new characters are the result of that pregnancy. Just my opinion.

If you read those old Lee/Romita issues, Norman is always trying to get in Gwenn's pants, and Pete is always flaking out to be Spider-Man, giving him plenty of chances to do it. And MJ was too busy being a go-go dancer to date anyone seriously, even though Osborn was putting the make on her too. What I'm saying is that is entirely possible Norman could have gotten Gwenn pregnant. I don't know how to explain the age thing though.

How do you know that Marvel death is meaningless?

When Marvel brings characters back from the dead only to KILL THEM AGAIN two panels later.

I am so happy I boycott all Marvel books. :)

Don't worry Knight,

It's been the work of Norman to F$#@ with Peter since the CLONE SAGA. Part Six of Sins Past (AMS 514) may reveal the true story.

If not, Mavel always can rewrite/retcon the story later to meet fan expectations. :atomic:

I just read 514. The story would work if the actions fit the character. Yes, JMS basically re-wrote Gwen as an SLUT (that's not gonna go well with the hardcore fans). I'm re-reading the reprints (AMS 90-122), and the Gwen written by Gerry Conway is basically sweet/innocent. JMS's Gwen is a mirror version of MJ; a very strong woman but a SLUT.

The real BS is Peter NEVER HAD SEX WITH GWEN! WTF. NO WAY!

What would make sense is if Norman raped Gwen (that's one way to really F%$# with Peter), and Gwen made up the BS story (why I had sex with Norman and got pregant) to MJ, to lighten the shock.

What would make more sense is PETER had sex with GWEN a lot and that the kids are really his. The boy is a dead ringer for Peter (FYI).

However, even if the story arc ended right now (with Gwen being a SLUT), I works for me because it makes it more interesting (you gotta shake thing up once in a while).

But i digress. I think I wrote the SL word too many times. :P :atomic:

Kinda *SQUEE* me off that Gwen is portrayed as a slut too but there are still two more issues in the 6 part story so I believe it will all come around for the best. Straczynski hasn't let me down yet. His reads up till now have been some of the best Spidey in a long. long time. :hope:

Let me get this straight...

Gwen has sex once in her life that we know. Only once.

That constitutes being a slut?

Oh... brain hurt...

On a side note, Gwen did have a history of being attracted to older men (Professor Hamilton), even if it was in a non-sexually implied way. I don't really see how her actiosn don't fit the character.

And that reviewer who went through the roof confuses me as well. Not once in the book did it say that "Osborn's accelerated healing causes the children to age" - rather, it states that Osborn's accelerated healing is a genetic change, and like in all mutations, aspects of that change were passed on to his offspring. In his children, it has the rapid acceleration of cells that cause Osborn's healing - but it also seems to have a rapid degeneration of cells as well. Sounds like simple science to me.

Byrneout, you're right Gwen's not a slut but what Gwen did was slutty. However, I do think it was out of Gwen's character. If you read AMS (90-121, Essential Spiderman vol 2-6) Gwen's character is the love of Peter's life and he is hers. She's truly devoted to him, and until her death she's worried about a bunch of stupid stuff nothing real serious (like: I just left my twins alone in Europe, that *SQUEE* Norman is the father of my twins, how the f$#@ will I tell Peter). JMS story of SIN PAST is a retoactive reconstruction (RETCON) of HISTORY AND CHARACTERS to mix the old with the new. You can bet Gerry Conway's Gwen would have never slept with Norman. However, JMS versions of things is way more interesting.

But c'mon if Gwen really loved Peter so much how could she give into Norman so easy (because she was easy  ). However, we don't really get Gwen's side of the story (just MJ's version of what was told to her). Maybe Norman had been trying to get in her panties for a while (to mess with Peter) and finaly took advantage of her by force :x . However, if my girl friend (the love of my life, and I was her true love :P ) slept with someone I disliked freely, that would be enough for me to call her a SLUT. At the very least it would tarnish my memories of her. Remember, we are men; our EGOS get bruised very easy (well at least me) :P :atomic:

:? Who the heck was Professor Hamilton (Harry had a shrink by that name)? :? There was a Professor Miles Warren (the Jackel) who lusted after Gwen. :atomic:

Sorry - that post was made WAY too late for me to claim total coherency.

Yes, I did mean Professor Miles Warren. FOr no apparent reason, I typed Professor Hamilton fromt he Superman mythos in there.

*sigh*

Perhaps I should stop getting hit over the head so much....

This arc sucks. Everything about it from the kids who are Norman's, but one looks like Peter, to the advanced aging to Gwen gave it up to Norman. It's weak that writers have to put bs in the "off panel" storyline to come up with a story. Whats next? Aunt May giving blow jobs to pay rent after Uncle Ben died. Come on.

It could be worse. It could be any of the OTHER Spider-Man story arcs running right now. Or one of the X-books.

..about his spider nads being hurt when Venom attacked Aunt May naked in the shower while his gooey symbiote was rubbing MJ's boobies down the hallway, I don't have to buy 18 freeking titles per month. It completely aviods the similar sensation your having right now reading this paragraph. *
