Plus, he doesn't have issue 4...just tries to slip that little detail past us.

I should watch that. If somebody is actually willing to spend $99 on a short run of Rai, then I should unload some extras.

Even with the current spikes we've seen lately it's doubtful someone will be stupid enough to bid on this lot.

Not VALIANT, but a con none the less. Spirit "Original" Art

There is no original art here, only a photostat (fancy xerox). I wrote to ask him, here's the exchange:
MagnusRF wrote:Hi,

I just want to be 100% clear before bidding, is this item a photostat? Is any of it actual original art, hand drawn by Will Eisner?

Thank you!

Some idiot on eBay wrote:Like it says in the listing 'the art is a photostat'.
MagnusRF wrote:So there is no original art, only a Xerox?
Some idiot on eBay wrote:This is the ORIGINAL pasteup of photostats that make the cover of the Harvey Spirit #1 in 1966. They are pasted up with rubber cement onto illustration board - the industry practice at the time. This cover is 41 years old.

THERE ARE NO XEROXES ANYWHERE. LOOK UP THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN PHOTOSTAT & XEROX ON GOOGLE.
MagnusRF wrote:It may be an ORIGINAL pasteup, but there is NO ORIGINAL ART here at all, despite what it says in your auction title.
Some idiot on eBay wrote:It is the original art for the cover of the Harvey Spirit #1. It's what the cover was printed from in 1966.
MagnusRF wrote:There's a difference, original art is hand-drawn, hand-inked, or hand-painted by an artist. A photostat is a copy. Look it up on Google.
Am I insane? Have we started calling photostats original art? I've heard it called production art, but never original art.

There has always been a confusion between "original art" and "used as printing original". I believe that the seller is wrong in using the word "art" as he does, and that you're not insane :P

It is original, it is considered art (anything you hand over to a printer is referred to as art), but it is also production material. He should label it as original production art.

With that kind of starting price, I don't think he has to worry about people bidding anyway.

I sent this to the seller:

"The books you have for sale have a total market value of about $15. Trying to sell them for $75-$200 is like taking your money and burning it, or flushing it down the toilet. I would say it's like tossing it out the window, but someone might find it, so it's not that good. Good luck."

Yeah, nevermind, I was too lazy to look for the Magnus #7.

ROFL!

Make that $5.

My actual response (yeah, yeah, it's caustic, so what):

"HAHAHAA....You're such a dillhole.

Idiots like you, who have no clue what things are actually worth, but go around assigning bizarre "prices" to them, because they're too damn lazy to do a little research, are fun to laugh at. What YOU don't get is that I'm RIGHT. You SHOULD be saying "man, thanks, I had no idea. I'll fix that right now."

Instead, you send this nonsense. HAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!! By ALL MEANS, THROW your money away!

Boring? No, not at all. Laughing at morons like you is FUN.

Thanks!"
