No worries, we all have had Aug002 MANIA but the fact remains his credit card has more room than any of us are willing to test. We've beat him on occasion but by in large if you mess with THE BIG BOY you're gonna get stomped into the ground.

The way to beat him is hope he misses it or goes on vacation. But since he lives in paradise I don't know what he does for an enchore.

The truth is, that Gordon (Aug002) is one of the best things to happen to our little community in quite some time. He's lightning fast and reliable on all payments and has been very consistent over the past year and a half I've been Ebaying.

Ebay aside, I'd imagine he's paid over 10k for Valiants to members of this board alone. Any way you cut it, that kinda cash is always a "GOOD THING!"

I second everthing Sound says, more power to aug, if he has the cake to do it, good for him.

The way I see it, us regular guys have to get out high grade cgc's the old way "we have to earn them" because we can't drop the big cake on these books. So get out there to the shows and LCS's and start digging and if you find a great one which we all do sometimes, cgc it yourself for 20 bucks, it's more satisfying that way.
I am selling "nothing" on ebay-yet.

For some strange reason, I'm a big fan of aug right now. And he is good for the community, because the more he helps to push prices up, the more attention Valiant gets.

And if Valiant gets attention, things happen:

The prices of the books we have go up. Our multiples are worth more.
More people notice Valiant and become fans. We have more online friends.
Someone might buy Valiant because of the growing fan-base based on quality, and comics/movies might get made.

The way I see it, there are 10's of thousands of millionairs in the world...what's so strange that one of them would have good taste in modern comics? :)

ok ok im sorry peeps i had a brief moment of insanity :!: its guys like him that drove me outta comics in the early nineties grrrrrrrrrr. dudes who are the first monkey at the door when the local comic store open and then they buy like 250 of every issue and leave the rest of us in a corner reading our 25 cent back issue bin collective thumbs. while they sniker and grind thier hands on the way out to the comic uhual they got parked out front. its just sometimes i wanna stick thier cgc graded mags up their (beeeeep) mercedes mother (beeeep) drivin (beeeep)and then id (beeeeeeep) beeeeeeeeeeep) beeeeeeep) the holy (beeep) outta them. then id go all x-o on his (beeeeeeeep) (beeeeep). as far as good for valiant and us i have mixed thoughts on the subject. cya gtg to church all :thumb:

Don't sweat it archilles, we all have our moments around here. I suppose time will tell with people like aug. Maybe guys like this know something we don't, but what goes up in price all of a sudden will usually come crashing back down eventually. Remember the Beanie Babie craze? I would rather see a slow rise over a long period of time than see a repeat of the early days of Valiant. Personally, I do get a kick out of seeing comics I own go up 5 times in value overnight but I am also leery of fast moving trends like this. Either way though I won't lose any sleep over it, I collect Valiant because I truly love the books (most of them anyway) their increasing value is just a added bonus.

I dont think that anyone is saying that he cant buy whatever he wants. I think it is more of a thing of courtesy...

Sure if I had Bill Gates money I could buy all the plywood and gas in FLA and ALA right now, but would that be the nice thing to do?

Any fool can drop high price for anything they want.

That takes no skill, no effort, no finesse.

The KEY....the absolute KEY to happiness in your pursuit of back issues is to not only find them...but find them at a price that everyone else would be falling all over themselves to pay.

LEARNING what back issues are 'worth it', and what aren't...that takes SKILL.

FINDING said back issues..ESPECIALLY before the advent of the internet...for well below 'market' value...that takes EFFORT.

PAYING the price YOU WANT TO PAY, and then negotiating even further, WITHOUT revealing your hand...(and believe me, I've blown my hand a COUPLE of times...ouch!)...THAT takes finesse.

THAT is the secret to Buying Back Issues Success AND Happiness.

Could I have spent HUNDREDS of dollars and gotten exactly those two books back in 1993? Well, DUH. But where's the challenge in THAT?

The fact that my VERY FIRST COPIES EVER of BOTH Magnus #0 AND Harb #0 Pink were THIRTY CENTS EACH, and that I had spent SIX YEARS looking for those two copies...well, come on, that's just about as thrilling as it gets, no?

The ONLY...and I DO MEAN the ONLY...thing that didn't make that buy even sweeter is that in 1998, I had no idea there were still other Valiant fans out that, and that anyone even cared. ;)

You know what I've found to be even harder then finding back issues at "at a price that everyone else would be falling all over themselves to pay"? Selling back issues at guide or *gasp* above guide.
