KC group represent!
Boda, John Hickman, architect and myself need to get together with the rest of the midwest people within a 3 hour driving radius and hit up a convention or LCS. Make a day out of it. What do you all think? I'm sure we could find something amussing that takes 6-8 hours while we talk comics.

All we would have to do is go to John Hickman's house. He has more comics than any LCS around here. I think his wife is very forgiving when it come to basement space...
KC is cleaned out of Valiants. I can say that with confidence
. Columbia has a few shops that might be untouched, but that's about 2 hrs east of KC.

I'm in depending on the date. Could be fun. Maybe I could carpool with Ryan who, strangely enough, I have never met even though there is only one LCS worth a $#!T in Lincoln.whetteon wrote:Boda, John Hickman, architect and myself need to get together with the rest of the midwest people within a 3 hour driving radius and hit up a convention or LCS. There was a comic show this past saturday in Topeka, it was in the back of the newest wizard. I wasn't able to make it since I was in Colorado, so I am not sure if it went down or not as the website for it sucked and didn't have any topeka info on it! Count me in when we nail something down!

Make sure you keep an eye on this web page for any Midwestern comic shows. There's apparently going to be a new show starting in Lincoln, NE for those of you in that area:

Thanks. KC Comic Con looks like it got cancelled. The other one in Lenexa is a joke. I went to that one last year & it was very small with hardly any Valiants.Brother J wrote:Make sure you keep an eye on this web page for any Midwestern comic shows. I don't know if the one in Lincoln would be worht it or not.

LINCOLN, NE Nov. 7
Best Western Villager Courtyard and Gardens
5200 O St (at the corner of O St US Hwy 34 and 52nd St) in Lincoln
Hours are from 10 AM to 4 PM Admission is FREE!
Lots of cool comics, videos and toys from dealers, some who aren't at other area conventions!
For info call Alan @ 309 657-1599
This looks pretty good, it's on a Sunday. I'll probably go at 10 to get the best selection and be back in time for NFL

We dont' have to do a convention. (especially since their seems to be none going on around here until 2005) Let's pick a date and time to just go to a nudey asian bar where you get to eat sushi off the ladies and discuss comics, comic collecting, comic storage and why boda needs to give me all his cgc's. Of course location and discussion topics may be open for debate!

Re: KC group represent!
I was gone for all of 2003 and did not get back until late March of this year. If you saw "that guy" during that period then it was not me. I only go in every few weeks now as I am only getting about 8 monthlies anymore and I just have Larry and John pull them for me.Ryan wrote: Maybe we have seen each other, we just don't know it. Actually there was this guy I saw in there some months ago buying some early Valiants (I saw some Rais) and we all (Larry and John included) had a discussion about Valiant and Shooter. I don't think it was you though, since this guy kinda seemed like a newbie. I'll tell you what next time I go I'll wear my dashing red Magnus tunic if you wear your Turok loincloth and warpaint

Larry has been cleaned out of Valiants of "value" for quite sometime. When I got back I did find the $2.50 versions of Vis vs Val 1-2 in his backroom. That was a shock. I consider Larry a friend so I felt a tad guilty when I bought two copies of Geomancer 1 VVSS from him for $.50 each. That was quite awhile ago before the resurgence. Larry does have a standing order from me to buy Valiants or direct them to me if someone brings in their collection and they have some good ones.
Why do I have to wear the loincloth?

Cause I have to wear the skirt!Technique wrote: Why do I have to wear the loincloth?

anyway my visits to TaT have been pretty irregular for a while also, my pull list is quite small. Larry and John are real cool guys, I came over to TaT after Cosmic went down a few years ago. I asked Larry to see his Valiants once and he was cleaned out of everything good, so I guess you got there first

I deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Enduring/Iraqi Freedom. We left Lincoln in February for Ft Hood, hit Kuwait in March, and hit Mosul in April. We stayed in Mosul until March of this year. All told I spent 362 days in theatre. If you have to be in Iraq then Mosul is probably the place to be. On average it is ten degrees cooler than Baghdad and fifteen degrees cooler than Kuwait. That it means that the average high was only 115 F last summer. Also, Mosul does not have that annoying moon dust constantly hanging in the air (it's there, it's just not hanging in the air for some reason), sticking to your skin, and getting into your stuff. I was with (and still am, for awhile) the 41st RAOC. We were under the 101st CSG in support of the 101st ABN DIV (Air Assault).Ryan wrote:So where did you go for a year?

As long as I can keep everything to the basement, my wife is cool with things. (and I'm sure that I can fit a LOT more in).BodaZoffa wrote:All we would have to do is go to John Hickman's house. Hey, I'm game for whatever.
Comic shops in KC are very bad for back issues/ shows aren't much better. Some very nice shops for new comics (with a good selection of indys and others) but back issues are a joke.
