Ian Sokoliwski, pro comic book colourist
Howdy folks - I'm new to the board (although I have taken a look from time to time), and thought I'd introduce myself a bit, primarily my Valiant connection.
Well, I'm a professional comic book colourist - currently I'm the colourist on the Bob Layton/Dick Giordano webcomic Colony, as well as the Dark Horse Comics trade paperback series The Chronicles of Conan. I also coloured the Arcana Studios series Paradox, and Issue 7 (Snow White and the Seven Dwarves) of Grimm Fairy Tales by Zenescope.
Anyway, I've done a lot of Valiant-based commissioned colouring in the past couple of years, much of which has already been presented on this website. The following links all show my colouring (over the illustrations of Bob Layton, Anthony Castrillo, and Ray Kryssing):

http://www.comicartfans.com/GalleryPiec ... t=0&UCat=0

So, you know, I just thought I'd say Hi, and pimp my own website as well as my Comic Art Fans Gallery.

Welcome Ian!Ian Sokoliwski wrote:Howdy folk - I'm new to the board (although I have taken a look from time to time), and thought I'd introduce myself a bit, primarily my VALIANT connection.

Guys, as Ian has shown in his first art link,
he is the colorist for the awesome Bob Layton X-O Manowar lithograph:

Great job, Ian... we hope to see more of your work on VALIANT characters in the future!

Ian,
Hey - those look vaguely familiar...
Your coloring is AWESOME and I look forward to having you do some more work for me sometime in the future.
Guys - Ian does GREAT work, is extremely fast and makes changes for you at no additional cost until it is colored the way you want it to be done. I think the 3 X-O pieces he did for me along with the litho all turned out SWEET!
Welcome to the board Ian,
Chris

Thanks for the testimonial, Chris
Thanks, everybody, for the warm welcome! I'll be putting more stuff up on this thread soon.
Ah, heck, let's start with some non-Valiant cheesecake, pencilled by Maxx Marshall..

Another non-Valiant piece, this time it's a pin-up that will appear in the upcoming Shadowflame mini-series.
This one is entirely my own work - my pencilling, inking, and colouring. I know my inking isn't as solid as a lot of others (colouring really is my strong suit), but I get by.

So, I doubt many of you would be wanting to get up to Winnipeg this coming November, but I thought I'd mention a comic book convention here that I'm gonna be appearing at.
It's the Manitoba Comic Con, November 4th and 5th - the info can be found here:
http://www.manitobacomiccon.com/
And, since the link to the 'guests' still seems to be broken, I'll post the correct link to see all the guest info (including mine):
http://www.manitobacomiccon.com/artists.htm
I'll have my original sketches, illustrations, prints of some of my work, as well as copies of comic books that I've coloured that I'll be giving to people who buy sketches (or probably even just ask politely).
I also thought I'd pimp my Comic Art Fans site again, chiefly as I've added a new gallery, one featuring Convention-style sketches. These are low-priced ($20 US) sketches, the type I would do at sketches, just to give ideas to folks about stuff they might want to commission and whatnot. I'll be posting some Valiant characters up there in the coming weeks (right now, it is mostly takes on Iron Man armour suits and some other Marvel and DC character - you know, the stuff that catches people's eye).
Oh, and examples of the kinds of prints that I'll also have for sale ($10 US each) can be found in this gallery.

I really don't get around here as much as I'd like to...
Well, lately, I've been mostly working on the kind of stuff that I can't post until after the publication date. Although I've got a couple of new things...
A little sword'n'sorcery, pencils-to-colour style (all art by me)
http://www.comicartfans.com/GalleryPiec ... &GSub=1003
Here's a piece for a private collector, a character from City of Heroes, I believe. It was pencilled and inked by Darryl Banks (of Green Lantern fame) with my colours
http://www.comicartfans.com/GalleryPiec ... GSub=22803
Finally, another Bob Layton illustration (with my colours) - a single figure drawing of a slightly tweaked Dreadnought robot
http://www.comicartfans.com/GalleryPiec ... t=0&UCat=0

Oh, and I've also started my own Webcomic.
BATTLEWITCH is a sci-fi story about robots fighting giant monsters. Well, there is also stuff about religious intolerance, gender roles, abuse of authority, and on and on, but it starts with robots fighting monsters anyway
It is updated every Friday, and is absolutely free!! You can check it out here:

You are referring to the big Armor Wars piece?siren3-4 wrote:I see there was an Iron Man piece you did similar to the X-O piece.

That was originally illustrated by Bob Layton just for fun (or self-flagellation - apparently it was quite a bit of work to do!) that I then coloured as a birthday present to him.
I know that he has sold the original, and I doubt that he would want to go through the legal hassle of offering the coloured version up as a litho or a print.
Too bad - I keep thinking I'd love a full-size copy of it myself

And thanks for the welcome!

Another one of my colouring jobs on Bob's lineart, this time the Mark V Space Armour.
Oh, and another popular one, this time my colouring over my own pencils, War Machine.
Honestly, once I get through this big deadline at the end of this month, I'm going to do some original Valiant-style artwork of my own, probably X-O to start with
