There was an old TV show called Cliffhangers! that featured three different stories.

One was about a cowboy fighting a secret underground empire, another one had Dracula as a college professor in California, and the third had a Lois Lane-like reporter.

That be another good license.

Now there is an idea, you can get the licensing to do all of Anne Rice books and shoot off's.

Some basic TV shows that were cult classics, like Mission Impossible and Miami Vice. Maybe you can take 3 or 4 of these and string them together and make more of a real world drama serious instead of focusing on the unreal.
I'm reluctant to say CSI or Law and order because I think it's ridicules that they have 3 different versions of each show, just keep the best one on and make room for other shows damit.

IDW has the CSI license.

I don't think Law & Order would translate that well into comic books, but it might work.

Marvel's done some Mission Impossible comics in the past, so that could work too.

I don't think Law & Order would translate well to comics.....not this late into there television run.....IMO

The average age watching L&O is well over 55 years.....they aren't going to purchase comics for this unless they already buy comics...

Most importantly I think L&O is a hard format to translate into comic book form.

I agree...... :thumb:

I also think CSI is also tough to translate and IDW does it with moderate success....

To bad IDW has the 24 license... :|

Thinking a bit more about this topic I was thinking that more important is to know whether or not they (VE) will ever actually produce any comics. Particularly featuring the established VALIANT characters.

Sure they will, while else would they have spent more than a million dollars on it?

To resell them? Not likely.

This might be off topic but how about some kickass trade paperbacks of old Valiant stuff?
:bricks:
wouldn't that be the way to go, reprint some of the good stuff to garner interest in new stuff?
maybe see about adding in short teasers for some new projects/stories.
throw money at Jim Shooter to figure out what to do.

if I ever win the lottery and multimillions of dollars I am giving a percentage to:
Jim Shooter
Terry Gilliam
Trent Reznor

let them go nuts, maybe force them into a room with all the crap they need, food included and don't let them out until I like what they collaborate on.
What we need is innovation and even revolution—but not so much in the form of marketing ploys and doohickeys. What is needed is bold creative vision, excellent stories, and brilliant storytelling, in a word, entertainment. -- Jim Shooter

DVD-style trades would rule.

I guess the key is finding decent licenses that haven't been picked up yet, so probably it would be newer shows. Maybe like LOST or the Nine or something.

Or what if they picked up Super Mario and Zelda again to bank on the popularity of the Wii and the new Zelda game? o.o;

Oh ya, you stumbled on a great idea. Pulling Characters from Video games and gear them for American Market consumption aka GTA, Resident Evil, Final Fantasy non-anime style etc...

I know Halo does a comic, I think.

Basically do the opposite of Acclaim, instead of characters for Video Games, Comics for Video Game Characters.

As video games have matured since the days of Mario and Zelda, VE MIGHT be able to do something with the properties you mention long as what happened before doesn't happen again.

Licensing to do an adaptation of the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy would surely be profitable, but probably to difficult to get rights to. I think I've read where other publishers had tried and were unable to work out the details with the Tolkien heirs.
